| A. JANUARY, 2018: RPRC STARTED NEW PROGRAMS IN AT LEAST FOUR RURAL COMMUNITIES1. Province of Agusan del Sura. Bacay 2 Communityb. Nueva Gracia Communityc. Masayan Community2. Province of Palawana. Bintat Kharis Communityb. Upper Mountain Communities B. JULY, 2018: FOLLOW-UP TRIP TO THE PHILIPPINES TO EVALUATE THE PROGRESS1. Visited the Kauswagan Municipality natural farming area in Lanao Province to identify potential training site for future RPRC beneficiaries living in provinces in or around Lanao.2. Visited a model farm in Misamis Oriental to understand their native chicken farming approach.3. Conducted a natural farming seminar to pastors in Tagabaca, Agusan del Norte4. Did an evaluation visit to RPRC beneficiaries in the communities of Bacay 2, Masayan, and Nueva Gracia in Agusan del Sur5. Did a field trip with the TLRGO Church to the LAO model farm and MBRLC to expose them of natural farming system. TLRGO Church is the church planter of the Bacay 2, Masayan, Nueva Gracia. A week later, through the funding of RPRC, all beneficiaries from these communities did a field trip to the same farms.6. Conducted a training among teachers and parents of the RPRC adopted school Badtasan Elementary School and met with other beneficiaries in Kiamba, Sarangani Province.7. Did an evaluation of the projects in Bintat Kharis and surrounding communities.8. Revisited the island of Leyte where RPRC did its first mission trip.C. SOME IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ABOVE-MENTIONED ACCOMPLISHMENTSA1. The communities of Bacay 2, Masayan, and Nueva Gracia are very enthusiastic communitieswhich consist mainly of Manobo people. These groups have strong leaders as well. They are very thankful for the opportunities offered by RPRC to create their own livelihood using natural farming system. RPRC approved five families from each community to be the first beneficiaries and eventually these first five beneficiaries will be the one to train the rest of the members of the communities; hence, a total of 15 families to start the projects. Each of the 15 family beneficiaries were fully equip with the following:a). all the proper tools that they needed in building, cultivating, and maintaining their gardens, on the average costing about $70 per beneficiary;b). live worms to start their own vermiculture costing about $14.00 per beneficiary;c). seeds of various local vegetables which cost about $14 per beneficiary;d). sacks of vermicass supplied to beneficiaries so they can have a head start in their gardening, $15 per beneficiarye). live chickens: five females and one male to start natural chicken farming at $53 per beneficiary. The RPRC team conducted training among the farmers using various modular presentations in agriculture and animal farming using the Natural Farming approach which emphasizes the use of the resources that are present in the community. This is part of the RPRC emphasis on stewardship of the God-given resources.A2. The Bintat Kharis community and the up river communities have a different situation and different demographic characteristics from that of the Manobo communities in Agusan del Sur. First their locations are more on the elevated mountain areas and they were less exposed to organized gardening and animal farming. But they were willing to learn. The people are mainly from the Palawano tribes and it seemed that they were less exposed to the 'outside world' probably due to their geographical locations. Just the same, they lacked the needed seeds, tools, worms, and vermicass to get started. Our team supplied resources and also provided the training. There is also a private school in the area so we also trained the students and the parents. B1-7. The follow-up trips in July was very encouraging as each of the communities showed a lot of progress. The communities successfully grew their worms and therefore, the people produced ermicass already to be used as their natural fertilizers. A lot of the vegetables were thriving and the benficiaries were consuming their own produce. Some beneficiaries even started selling vegetables. Needless to say, the beneficiaries needed more follow-up training in the future; however, their progress within a six-month period was truly a huge one. As far as the chicken raising, the beneficiaries were also enjoying eggs for family consumption and some income when they sell the eggs.As far as the RPRC adopted Badtasan Elementary School in the Province of Sarangani, a big progress in their gardening was also taking place; however, the teachers and parents seemed to not show progress in vermiculture. So RPRC conducted more training in vermiculture. In another community among the Tiboli tribes, it was disheartening to hear that the RPRC supported community was demolished by a group and the same group destroyed the houses, plants, and animals of the people. RPRC has talked about abandoning the projects in this area; however, a group of pastors had begged RPRC to continue and that they were willing to start the livelihood program, if given the opportunity to become RPRC beneficiaries. Hence, RPRC programs continue among the Tiboli tribes.By the end of 2018, these communities were already seeing the fruit of their labor. | $0 | $38,523 |
