DescriptionGrantsExpenses
1. The RPRC team went back to Sarangani Province, Mindanao for the second time in January, 2017, the RPRC team went back to this province where in 2016, the team went for the first time. In the first visit, the team met with provincial officials and also with local level governments officials to find out what are the most impoverished rural tribal areas. Then the team proceeded to visit the sites, some located on the mountains and some on more level areas. The main finding was that the tribes lacked the needed resources-knowhow, seeds, and tools so they can raise their own food. So the team provided these resources and with the tribal communities, their first gardens were formed, cultivated, and planted. Hence, in the second trip, the team did follow-up training and reinforcement of the garden principles already implemented. On the animal side, one of the most important events in this visit is that two goat houses were built and the team purchase the first goats for reproduction. The other activities of the team included workdays in two elementary schools where they taught composting and gardening. The Reading Is Fun was also a theme of the visit and the schools received a lot of dictionaries. In one school, one of the volunteers taught the teachers and students how to do fermentation. 2. Mid year follow-up and assessment of tribal areas in the Province of Agusan del SurIn July, Cora Carter went back to the Philippines to do a mid-year follow-up and to assess and also open new areas for RPRC programs. The first leg of the trip was in the island of Bohol where Cora and a volunteer, Emma Caballero, worked in Cancatac Elementary School for four days teaching them gardening and implementing the principles right away. RPRC provided the tools and seeds for the school. The next leg of the itinerary was to the island of Palawan where Cora assessed a mountain area in the town of Rizal for suitability of the RPRC programs. Cora met with the leaders and inspected the actual area as well. Cora also visited the areas of the OM ministries. The next itinerary was to Agusan del Sur Province and Cora held a seminar for three communities and also assessed their areas. These areas, if approved by RPRC, will be prepared for a team outreach in January of 2018.The next part of the follow-up visit was to Sarangani Province. On the way there from Davao, Cora and volunteer, Ma'am Emma Caballero, met up with the Sulong Tribu Government Agency at the MBRLC farm in Bansalan, Davao, so the the government employees could visit some demo farms as part of educational tour. The group also visited the Lao Demo farm in the area. In Sarangani Province, an additional focus was given to the Badtasan Elementary School where parents, teachers, and students were trained how to do vermiculture. Cora and Emma visited the sites of Datu Mapangal and Datu Wali, the two areas where the first goat houses were built.3. Approval of the new areas to start RPRC programs and implementation began When Cora came back to the US, she submitted her report on the assessments of the potential new areas. Both Palawan and Agusan areas were all approved by the team leadership. By October, some aspects of the projects already began in these areas. These included composting, vermiculture, and building of the chicken houses. Fifteen eneficiaries were chosen in Agusan. All necessary tools were purchased for the Agusan and Palawan areas.$0$40,852
