“Acc-us supports community-based conservation programs that focus on increasing biodiversity in east africa. Programmatic successes in fy2020 that acc-us helped to support include: african conservation centre (acc) - although a difficult year due to the covid-19 pandemic, acc-us continued to help fund acc community-based wildlife conservation programs. Highlights include the launch of a new research program to conserve endangered maasai giraffe, education of more than 200 students about conservation near amboseli, support for game scouts at rombo conservancy, support for a strategic planning process with maliasili, funds for twala tenebo cultural centre that provides livelihood for more than 200 members and general operating support for acc. Amboseli conservation program (acp) - acp has monitored and conserved amboseli's wildlife and its ecosystem to the benefit of its people for more than 50 years. Thanks to generous grants from the liz claiborne art ortenberg foundation in 2020, acp has been engaged at both a national and county level in strategies, land planning and policy developments that bear on the future of wildlife in kenya. Programmatic successes include: expanded ecosystem monitorting, including impacts of human activities; mapped human -dimensions of change; digitized and integrated all facets of monitoring program in a single database; began use of high-definition satellite imagery to compliment ground monitoring; made all monitoring methodology and programs readilly available to partners/public; trained and manages resource assessors; completed a study on the needs of aviable wildlife population migrating across amboseli ecosystem; provided report that provided foundation of the amboseli ecosystem management plan and the amboseli national park plan 2020-2030; set up a rangelands division of aemp; created restoration plans; developed a human wildlife conflict mitigation strategy; mentored kenyan conservationists; and shared information through publications, lectures and outreach. Land & life foundation (llf) - thanks to generous individual donors, acc-us supported llf's wildlife warrior program scholarships taht promotes inter- generational knowledge sharing, innovative thainking, and proactive wildlife conservation. Acc-us also supported llf's educational programs tied to primary schools. This year, llf completed construction of the ganako primary school kitchen and equipped it with fuel efficient stoves (serving 510 students). Llf also provided solar power lighting to esiteti primary boy's dormitory. At kachiuru primary, they provided covid supplies, a new teacher toilet block and administration block. They also built a new classroom at morijo primary. Landscape & conservation mentors organization (lcmo) - acc-us has provided some general organizational support to lcmo in 2020. Lcmo has two main environmental programs: watu, simba na mazingira (wasima) and vijana na mazingira (vima) operating in remote villages around katavi national park and other parts of western tanzania. Other programs that are integrated with these two programs include a day in the park, greening mpimbwe and a student support program. Local ocean conservation (loc)- acc-us donors provided funds to support loc's work to develop and implement sustainable marine resource management models, utilizing sea turtles as an indicator species for ecosystem health. South rift association of landowners (soralo)/rebuilding the pride - rebuilding the pride (rtp), run by the south rift association of landowners (soralo), a maasai landowner group, aims to increase lion and other carnivore numbers across the south rift area of kenya. The program reduces human-wildlife conflict, prevents range fragmentation and maintains healthy prey numbers.
