Mission and Program Overview
Mission
The rp foundation's mission is to: (a) increase awareness about relapsing polychondritis; (b) provide support (primarily through the use of the internet, social media, and patient advocacy programs) for those who are affected by relapsing polychondritis, support research to advance a cure for relapsing polychondritis; (c) promote quality care for relapsing polychondritis patients; and (d) engage in such other activities in connection therewith that the board of directors may authorize, in all cases subject to the provision of section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenu code of 1986, as amended, or the corresponding provisions of any subsequent federal tax law (the "code").

“Awareness: the rp foundation partnered with six nationally and internationally recognized motorsports teams who shared their platform with our foundation to increase awareness regarding relapsing polychondritis (rp). In february 2021, the foundation supported a patient-inspired fundraiser that featured hand-crafted bracelets created by a patient with rp with the goal of increasing awareness and fostering a sense of community among patients with rp and their families. The rp foundation was awarded the platinum seal of transparency from guidestar.”

“Research: 2021 was a transformational year for the rp foundation's research endeavors. In feburary 2021, the rp foundation provided a gift to continue supporting the penn rp center that it helped to launch in 2020. The penn rp center is the only rp-focused research program in the nation and engages clinicians and researchers from the university of pennsylvania and the nih's vasculitis clinical research consortium (vcrc). In late 2020, in spite of the covid pandemic, the penn rp center began evaluating and providing multi-disciplinary treatments to patients with rp. In december 2020, the university of pennsylvania's institutional review board approved the vcrc longitudinal study which will catalyze research that has the potential to lead to biomarker discoveries that reveal the cause of rp and facilitate the development of targeted therapies. In march 2021, the vcrc longitudinal study of relapsing polychondritis was launched and enrolled the first patient.”
