Eig's key achievements for 2020 include: research focused on economically distressed communities and boosting economic dynamism. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eig published three major research reports in 2020, including the 2020 distressed communities index (dci), a dataset examining economic distress throughout the country and made up of interactive maps and a report, which have been broadly adopted by federal, state, and local governments and agencies, non-profit organizations, private sector leaders, and academics around the country, including foundations targeting support to small businesses in vulnerable communities during the pandemic and economic crisis to academics striving to better understand the social determinants of health. The neighborhood poverty project analyzed the evolution of high-poverty neighborhoods over the last four decades and consisted of two companion papers and a digital interactive. Additionally, over the course of the covid-19 pandemic and economic crisis, eig regularly published real-time economic analysis, including blogs and data snapshots, to help inform the public and policymakers about the impact of the economic crisis on entrepreneurs, workers, small businesses, and american communities. Additionally, over the course of the covid-19 pandemic and economic crisis, eig regularly published real-time policy analysis to help inform the public and policymakers about policies to support entrepreneurs and small businesses through the economic crisis. Eig built bipartisan coalitions and led efforts to advance policies and better target emergency relief to protect america's vulnerable small businesses, workers, and the u.s. Economy through the covid-19 economic crisis. Eig also regularly updates the opportunity zones activity map, an interactive digital portal highlighting innovative investments, funds, and initiatives launched across the country, and leads a working group of over 50 wide-ranging stakeholder organizations to share opportunity zones best practices, technical information, developments, and facilitate peer-to-peer learning. Eig worked with policymakers, including through the department of treasury's public comment process, to improve the opportunity zones policy and ensure its alignment with congressional intent.
