The organization requests an outside cpa to prepare the annual form 990. The treasurer and office manager then provide a draft copy to the officer's for review and as an agenda item to review at the next board meeting. Information and answers are discussed, reviewed, and approved for filing.

Review of potential conflicts of interest are monitored, raised and acted upon at board meetings. At least once a year, general conflict of interest guidelines are reviewed and discussed by the board. New board members are fully informed of inner fire conflict of interest policies. Board members may recuse themselves from decision-making and discussion in cases involving any conflict of interest-although they are rare. If in question, board members are encouraged to consult with inner fire's independent legal counsel regarding potential conflicts of interest.

THESE TWO PROGRAMMATIC ACTIONS RESULTED IN A NET OPERATING LOSS FOR THE YEAR, BUT WERE FINANCED BY A HEALTHY CASH OPERATING SURPLUS AT THE END OF 2023.
