Mission

To eliminate poverty through a proactive, preventive, and compassionate approach. During the year, Genesis Garden provided free summer weekday meals for children, a monthly free community meal and groceries and ongoing renovation of a house for a shelter for families who are homeless.

Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 20

The Shelter House property (land and building) were recorded as expenses ("Construction in Progress") last year. These were converted to Fixed Assets this year, increasing the net assets. A property value was agreed upon in the purchase contract and this was used as the basis. The ratio of land:building values in the property tax bill was used to allocate the land value and house value. Similarly last year, the cost of the roof replacement was recorded as an expense and converted to a Fixed Asset this year. Additional restoration/construction of the house was completed this year, and was directly recorded as Fixed Asset. The house and restoration assets are now being depreciated over 27.5 years using the straight-line method.

These were converted to Fixed Assets this year, increasing the net assets. A property value was agreed upon in the purchase contract and this was used as the basis. The ratio of land:building values in the property tax bill was used to allocate the land value and house value. Similarly last year, the cost of the roof replacement was recorded as an expense and converted to a Fixed Asset this year. Additional restoration/construction of the house was completed this year, and was directly recorded as Fixed Asset. The house and restoration assets are now being depreciated over 27.5 years using the straight-line method.
