“Part III - Line 28”
“Laughs for the troops is dedicated to helping heal the invisible wounds of post-traumatic stress (ptsd) and traumatic brain injury (tbi) through laughter. Laughs for the troops completed its second year of operation and hosted several events throughout the country for military personnel and their families, as well as the general public (included in the fund raising expense). Through these events, laughs for the troops was able to raise money and awareness, and bring a smile to the face of hundreds of veterans.in april, bluescope buildings held a golf tournament in north carolina that brought together their employees and community to help raise awareness, as well as money for laughs for the troops, and raised nearly $10,000.in may, funniest night in america took place in los angeles at the wadsworth theatre (located on the grounds of va greater los angeles healthcare system). Laughs for the troops' founder, thomas brown, was joined by fellow comedians happy cole, tommy drake, and phil palisoul, to fill the room with laughter for our military service members, veterans and families.later in may, in celebration of the memorial day weekend, and the grand opening of two new dunkin' donut stores, the management company for 25+ dunkin' stores in the tampa area put together a promotion to benefit lftt, where $1 from every dozen donuts, box of coffee or other select products, was donated to lftt. Dunkin' raised more than $6,000 in just three short days to support lftt.in july, in conjunction with the defense health information technology symposium, medweb hosted a special night for many of their clients and partners to introduce laughs for the troops to them. This "mini" funniest night featured our founder and two other comedians and gave people from all over the country an opportunity to learn more about laughs for the troops, including companies based in washington, d.c. And san antonio who expressed an interest in helping to coordinate future events in their cities. The final two large events that rounded out the year took place in orlando at the shades of green at walt disney world resort and disney palm golf course. The morning golf tournament included 16 veterans, more than 1/3 of the total field of golfers.later that evening, orlando's first funniest night in america took place at shades of green, which allowed more than 25 veterans, about 1/4 of the attendees, the opportunity to attend the dinner/comedy show, where some of them expressed they hadn't laughed that hard in years.in many ways, laughter truly is the best medicine. And humor can heal. Laughs for the troops is dedicated to bringing a smile to the face of our veterans, but we also know that we the opportunity through our events to increase awareness about the plight many of our brave military members face upon returning from combat. Traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder are common ailments among military personnel who have returned from war.this year, we focused most of the veterans we supported associated with the james a. Haley veterans hospital, the va greater la healthcare system, and the orlando va, as those were the cities where our events took place. We look forward to growing our network of va partners and providing laughter to more veterans in 2018.”
