“$74,000 was granted to Tarkanfi Sustainable Development (TSD), Dukem, Oromia S.R., Ethiopia, Africa www.tsdethiopia.org TSD is a certified Ethiopian non-profit, led (unpaid) by our founder and volunteer missionary who is a US citizen, a native of Ethiopia, and a professional community development worker and teacher. Grants to TSD included funds for 3 water projects, 2 women's microfinance co-ops, bee-keeping and other household business startup trainings, construction of elementary classrooms, kindergarten, and school feeding center, tree-planting, student sponsorships, sewing training, emergency supplies for IDP' groups (internally displaced people), and administration expenses. $18,000 was granted to our founder, director, and volunteer missionary 1.) to fund mission activities (listed below) beyond the scope of TSD ($10,000) and 2.) to help with field expenses ($8,000). The missionary lives in Dukem, Ethiopia most of the year. Her mission involves 1.) participating in community life as a role-model for servant-leadership, generosity, volunteering, and community spirit, 2.) leading Tarkanfi Sustainable Development (TSD) [unpaid], 3.) inspiring and mentoring teachers and community leaders to increase their dedication and effectiveness, 3.) initiating mission projects beyond the scope of TSD [emergency supplies for a destitute community of internally displace women, tuition for 25 destitute young women and girls to attend 10 months of hairdresser training -- nearly all are now employed) , 4.) providing need-appropriate assistance to widows, families in crisis, disabled, street children, etc., 5.) networking locally, regionally, and internationally to promote community spirit, community development, women's empowerment, and peace, 6.) welcoming in-country and international guests to project sites and communities.”
