“Part III, Line 30-Third AccomplishmentThe World Seabird Union hosts a meeting of seabird scientists from around the world every five years. The 2020 conference was postponed due to COVID-19 and will be a virtual conference held 4-8 October 2021. The last conference was attended by 565 scientist from 52 nations; held in Cape Town South Africa. 411 papers were presented, 189 posters, 21 symposia and 3 workshops dedicated to the use, guidance and ongoing development of the WSU databases. Part III, Line 31-All Other AccomplishmentsIn order to develop more refined worldwide communications links, WSU supports Seabirds.net online, which is dedicated to the facilitation of data sharing and communication among international seabird scientists. The website serves as the gateway to the Seabird Information Network. The site hosts the business workings of the WSU, highlights conservation issues and activities, and posts employment opportunities for young scientists. Beginning in April 2020 the World Seabird Union is hosting Seabird Sessions, a live zoom discussion series during which seabird researchers from around the world get together to discuss recent papers about seabirds published in the professional literature. Every session covers two papers.”

“Primary Exempt PurposeThe mission of the World Seabird Union is to serve as a global network of seabird organizations, to enhance seabird conservation and research, and to assist developing nations in training scientists and carrying out seabird conservation related activites.The Fifth World Seabird Twitter Conferences was held online 9-11 April 2019. Over 700 presenters from 21 countries participated, presenting results from their research studies and conservation efforts. Attendees to the conference carried on discussions with the presenters and were able to ask questions. Presenters could get suggestions on directions for their efforts. Researchers needing advice on procedures or protocols for their work could hear from seabird experts. All presentations are archived online. Part III Line 28 - First AccomplishmentThe World Seabird Union holds one to two Twitter Conferences a year. Two were held in 2020.During three days of the last conference in 2020, the WSTC5 hashtag was used 3,400 times by more than 700 contributors-reaching nearly 1.3 million people. There were more than 100 presenters from over 21 countries. These global events allow researchers in developing nations to easily communicate with other researchers around the world and feedback on what they are doing. Researchers needing advice on procedures or protocols for their work can hear from seabird experts. Part III, Line 29-Second AccomplishmentCreate and post online global databases of seabirds (locations of nesting, numbers of nests, nest success, discussion of problems the colony may be experiencing) for use in informed conservation actions. Four databases are currently under compilation.”
