“The world seabird union hosts a meeting of seabird scientists from around the world every five years. The 2020 conference was postponed due to covid-19 and will be a virtual conference held 4-8 oct. 2021. The last conference was attended by 565 scientists from 52 nations; held in cape town, south africa. 411 papers were presented, 189 posters, 21 symposia and 3 workshops dedicated to the use, guidance and ongoing development of the wsu databases.”
“In order to develop more refined worldwide communications links, wsu supports seabirds.net online, which is dedicated to the facilitation of data sharing and communication among international seabird scientists. The website serves as the gateway to the seabird information network. The site host the business workings of the wsu, highlights conservation issues and activities, and posts employment opportunities for young scientists. Beginning in april 2020, the world seabird union is hosting "seabird sessions", a live, zoom discussion series during which seabird researchers from around the world get together to discuss recent papers about seabirds published in the professional literature. The hosts introduce a paper, then interview the author about their research. After that, audience members carry on a discussion about the paper. Every session covers two papers and is attended by people from all over the world (from at least 20 countries, including argentina, chile, usa, canada, england, france, netherlands, spain, italy, australia, new zealand, malaysia, south africa, japan and china.). Number of attendees ranges from 20 to 70 people.”
