22 youth orphaned by HIV/AIDS, conflict, and extreme poverty are cared for by our local partner in Kenya. In 2014, we supported education, psychosocial, and skills building projects, including school tuition and supplies subsidies, academic tutoring, computer literacy, weekly music and sport therapy, psychological counseling, and more. The housing project began in 2014 and completion is expected in 2015, giving youth safe spaces to grow into adults and providing sustainable infrastructure for the future. Many youth have excelled at the top of their classes and are thinking of their futures with newfound hope. They continue to heal the wounds of trauma and PTSD and demonstrate a greater emotional awareness as a result of ongoing counseling and mentoring.$52,908$53,889
Over 250 youth affected by HIV are supported by our two local partners in Ethiopia. In 2014, we supported 56 youth with vocational, computer, and creative arts trainings to develop basic job, life, and social skills while addressing the symptoms of PTSD. Trainings included electronics repair, food preparation, hair dressing, English, computer class, art, music, and dance. 2 of the eldest youth have secured part time jobs as a result of the training program. All the trainees have benefited from development of self-confidence, learning of new skills, emotional healing, and interaction with the HIV negative community.$9,035$10,435
In 2014, we supported two local partners in South Africa. We sent educational LEGO toys to a local preschool center to help develop motor, social, and problem-solving skills. We also supported an afterschool leadership program for township boys and young men, to give them an alternative to violence, drugs, and other high-risk behaviors. Our support subsidized an academic tutor for English and Math who also mentors the boys with life and leadership skills.$6,400$6,600
In December 2014, we launched the Safe Embrace Trauma Healing (SETH) Level 2 Activism program, a 2-year program that trains psychotherapists, social workers, and other healing professionals in the SETH curriculum, a global model for trauma recovery and resilience. 4 trainees joined the program and attended a 3-day workshop in 2014. They will each learn how to fundraise, serve as an activist, and facilitate trauma healing trainings during their internship projects, which take place during 2015-2016.$0$6,297
In Nepal, our partner provides safe housing and education to 270 youth from kindergarten through college and university. In 2014, we prepared for the SETH training project which takes place in Nepal in January 2015.$0$3,277
In 2014, we sent 10 volunteers to Kenya through our Volunteer Abroad program. Volunteers included high school and university students, professional architects, and business and finance managers who taught computer and photography classes, tutored kids in English and Math, conducted project due diligence and reporting, assisted with the house construction planning and project management, helped caregivers with daily farm and house chores, and above all, learned about the benefits of locally-led community development.$0$1,796

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3In December 2014, we launched the Safe Embrace Trauma Healing (SETH) Level 2 Activism program, a 2-year program that trains psychotherapists, social workers, and other healing professionals in the SETH curriculum, a global model for trauma recovery and resilience. 4 trainees joined the program and attended a 3-day workshop in 2014. They will each learn how to fundraise, serve as an activist, and facilitate trauma healing trainings during their internship projects, which take place during 2015-2016.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4Amended Articles of Incorporation were filed with the Secretary of State in California, a copy of which was sent to the IRS in July 2014.
