Activity 2

Medical education is an important service for Sanford. Sanford provides the medical community with high quality educational and professional development that is evidence and research based; accredited for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and Allied Health Professionals; inclusive of cultural diversity and addresses the need for specialty training. Sanford is dedicated to preparing health care professionals for the future. The Sanford PROMISE program connects students, educators and communities with science and research in health care at a secondary education age. Sanford works in partnership with the University of South Dakota - Sanford School of Medicine, and the University of North Dakota - School of Medicine to provide rotations for medical students, residencies and fellowships. Sanford works in partnership with an extensive group of higher learning organizations to provide student training and learning opportunities in many venues across our region.

Activity 3

Sanford Research is a non-profit research organization formed between Sanford Health and the University of South Dakota. Additionally, Sanford has established collaborations with other leading health and research organizations throughout the United States. Sanford Research is composed of several research centers, including: Cancer Biology with an emphasis on breast and cervical cancers; Cardiovascular Health with international leadership in Omega 3 fatty acids, preventive screenings and heart failure studies; Health Disparities focusing on sudden infant death syndrome and birth-related disorders at study sites including United States Native American Reservations and South Africa; Sanford Children's Health including sites in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in La Jolla, California as well as collaborations with Mayo Clinic; Clinic Research including participation in drug and devise studies, the National Cancer Institute Community Clinical Oncology Program and the National Community Cancer Center Pilot Project; Women's Health specific to reproductive endocrinology, human papillomavirus, urogynecology, pre-term labor and other concerns; and The Sanford Project which is specifically focused on the identification of a cure for Type I diabetes.Sanford Research offers exciting challenges for researchers both in well-established projects and ever expanding research opportunities. Sanford offer opportunities to participate in clinical trials and to be a part of the changing face of medicine.
