Mulege Sustainable Fisheries Project (MSFP) - EcoWB partners with Fundación Hagamos Más Por Santa Rosalía, A.C. (FHMSR), local fishermen, and other stakeholders on the MSFP, now in its 9th year. The goal of the Project is to improve the sustainability of the small-scale fishery and the welfare of Mulegé residents who depend on the Gulf of California for food and income. No. of people who benefit: 2,000.$48,290$12,782
El Salvador Mangrove Restoration - Over the past year, EcoWB has worked closely with Asociación Mangle, a community organization based in southeastern El Salvador, to lay the groundwork for a new mangrove restoration initiative. Centered on the richly biodiverse mangrove forests of Jiquilisco Bay, the first phase of the project set out to understand why some areas where mangroves have been lost are more responsive to recovery than others, and how that knowledge can help guide smarter, more effective restoration efforts. This first phase involves spatial analysis of 30 years of satellite data from Jiquilisco Bay, the country's largest and most ecologically significant mangrove forest. EcoWB is preparing for a second phase of work that will further evaluate hydrological dynamics to identify where restoration is most feasible and what conditions must be in place to ensure success.$0$5,984
Nairobi Reservoir Reclamation Project - EcoWB is working with the community-based organization Empower the Community (ETCO) in Nairobi, Kenya to jointly plan and implement several environmental and social improvement projects in the area of the Nairobi Reservoir. ETCO and EcoWB plan to launch a campaign to engage the community in the clean-up of tributaries flowing through the informal settlement of Kibera and into the Reservoir. No. of people who will benefit: 250,000.$4,250$3,934

Additional Explanations

Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 10

***Grant monies paid to affiliated organization Fundación Hagamos Más Por Santa Rosalía, A.C. (FHMSR) = $48,290. Address: Calle 5, e/ Av. Constitución and Álvaro Obregón, Santa Rosalia, Baja California Sur, 23920, Mexico. EcoWB partners with FHMSR, a small Mexican non-profit organization based in Santa Rosalía, BCS, Mexico, on the Mulegé Sustainable Fisheries Project (MSFP). EcoWB receives grant funding for the MSFP and donates a considerable amount of time and effort to the project. FHMSR promotes sustainable development in the Municipality of Mulegé through a variety of social, environmental, and economic development programs designed to improve the welfare of local residents. In 2024, EcoWB granted FHMSR a total of $48,290 so its staff could assist with fieldwork, facilitate the involvement of local fishermen and other stakeholders, and ensure compliance with the social responsibility aspects of the project. EcoWB and FHMSR work side by side on the MSFP, dividing responsibilities and tasks according to their respective capabilities to ensure project success. EcoWB maintains full control over the project, as detailed in monthly progress reports (required for monthly grant disbursements), and grant project completion reports. ***Grant monies paid to affiliated organization Empower the Community (ETCO) = $4,250. Address: Soweto East Village, Nyayo Highrise Ward, Lang'ata Constituency, Nairobi, Kenya. EcoWB has joined the local community-based non-profit, ETCO in their efforts to clean-up and restore the Nairobi Reservoir adjacent to the informal settlement of Kibera, outside of Nairobi, Kenya. EcoWB is working to address the waste and environmental damage that has come to characterize the once beautiful Nairobi Reservoir and its tributaries. Over the next few years, EcoWB and ETCO will work with the residents of Kibera and other partners to clean up waterways and reclaim the reservoir area for recreation and other beneficial uses by local residents. In 2024, EcoWB granted ETCO a total of $4,250 to hold community clean-up events for the Ngong River and its tributaries.
