IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0ACCESS TO CAPITAL FOR SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT - IN 2017 APPALACHIAN PARTNERSHIP INC ESTABLISHED A SINGLE MEMBER LLC SUBSIDIARY APPALACHIAN GROWTH CAPITAL, LLC TO ADDRESS GAPS IN ACCESS TO CREDIT FOR SMALL BUSINESSES IN APPALACHIAN OHIO. AGC WAS FORMED TO BECOME A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FINANCIAL INSTITUTION AS DEFINED BY THE US DEPT. OF THE TREASURY AND WILL APPLY FOR CERTIFICATION WHEN IT MEETS ORGANIZATIONAL AND LENDING PREREQUISITES ESTABLISHED BY TREASURY'S CDFI FUND (CERTIFICATION ANTICIPATED IN 2019). DURING 2018, AGC'S EFFORTS FOCUSED IN FOUR AREAS: INFRASTRUCTURE, FUNDING, CLIENT SUPPORT AND LENDING. EACH AREA IS DISCUSSED BELOW:1) INFRASTRUCTURE - AGC'S FOCUS HAS INCLUDED FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF ITS OPERATIONAL, SERVICING, AND ACCOUNTING SYSTEMS, UNDERWRITING, RISK MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING PROGRAMS. 2) FUNDING DURING 2018 AGC SECURED FUNDING FROM USDA TO ASSIST SMALL BUSINESSES WITH ACCESSING CAPITAL AS WELL AS GRANTS AND INVESTMENTS TO PROVIDE LOAN CAPITAL FROM BANKS, FOUNDATIONS AND OTHER INVESTORS. AGC CONTINUES TO WORK WITH KEY PLAYERS IN THE REGION TO INFORM THEM OF AGC'S FOCUS AND SOLICIT FINANCIAL AND NONFINANCAIL SUPPORT. DURING 2018 AGC WAS ABLE TO INCREASE ITS AVAILABLE LOAN CAPITAL FROM $73,333 TO $204,000.3) CLIENT SUPPORT - PRE-STARTUP RESEARCH IDENTIFIED A NEED FOR SERVICES FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED COMPANIES TO HELP THEM UNDERSTAND THE FINANCIAL ASPECTS OF THEIR COMPANY, HOW TO FINANCE THEIR GROWTH, AND HOW TO RESET THEIR BALANCE SHEET AND INCOME STATEMENT TO QUALIFY FOR FINANCING. AS PART OF THIS STRATEGY, AGC CONNECTED COMPANIES THAT MIGHT QUALIFY FOR COMMERCIAL BANK FINANCING WITH AN APPROPRIATE BANK (THE MAJORITY DID NOT HAVE A FUNCTIONAL BANKING RELATIONSHIP). AGC NETWORKED COMPANIES THAT COULD NOT QUALIFY FOR BANK FINANCING OR THAT HAD NEEDS THAT COMMERCIAL BANKS COULD NOT MEET INTO SECONDARY REGIONAL/NATIONAL LENDERS RO INTO OTHER CDFI LENDERS. DURING 2018 AGC WORKED WITH APPROXIMATELY 60 COMPANIES THAT PROVIDED A FULL SET OF FINANCIAL INFORMATION ALLOWING AGC TO ADVISE THEM ON MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS OF COMMERCIAL LENDERS. AGC MATCHED 21 OF THESE COMPANIES WITH BANK AND COMMERCIAL LENDERS THAT, IN TOTAL, OFFERED THE COMPANIES $26 MILLION IN FINANCING AT COMPETITIVE INTEREST RATES AND TERMS. OVERALL THESE PROJECTS AND RETAINED 52 JOBS, CREATED 171 NEW JOBS. 4) LENDING - AGC'S OWN LENDING PROGRAM CLOSED ITS FIRST LOAN FOR $41,500 ON NOVEMBER 30, 2018. AN ADDITIONAL THREE LOANS WERE APPROVED BUT WERE NOT CLOSED BEFORE YEAR END. THE CLOSED LOAN RESULTED IN 4 NEW AND 9 RETAINED JOBS.
