DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Family Inspired Recovery - In 2019 we chartered Families Inspired Recovery, an afterschool alternative peer group (APG) for high school students recovering from substance abuse disorders. An APG is a community-based, family-centered, professionally staffed, positive peer support program that offers prosocial activities, and case-management for adolescents who struggle with substance use disorders or self-destructive behaviors. APGs are a much better fit for the adolescent who struggles with substance use and co-occurring disorders because the main focus is to offer and shape a new peer group that utilizes positive peer pressure to stay in recovery. In addition, APGs focus on making sobriety more fun than using by organizing and staffing after-school sober social functions throughout the week, weekends, and summers. During this initial year, CLA served 15 teens and their families (over 50 people). Teens in the program receive over 20-25 hours of weekly support.$35,302$116,320
Community Living Above, through joint fundraising, helped the formation of Harmony Academy, Oregon's first recovery high school created in Lake Oswego, Oregon in 2019. In 2019, Community Living Above helped raise 27,835 through the Network for good and contributed $30,728 to the start up expenses of the recovery high school.$0$30,728
Teen Advisory Board ("TAB") - West Linn High School. Coordinated by Community Living Above volunteers, is a high school student volunteer group changing the way we see and speak of substance use and mental health disorders. Students of each grade level at West Linn HS comprise the Teen Advisory Board. With more than 200 participants for the 19/20 school year, these TAB students provide input and critical feedback to Community Living Above regarding teen activities and events that help by bringing awareness, education, and advocacy for peers whose lives are affected by drug, alcohol and other negative influences . During monthly meetings, students learn about healthy choices, decision-making skills, stress management, self-care, and empowerment. TAB students also organize and support TAB-run student outreach activities as well as being a one-on-one face in the hallways of school. These student leaders understand the importance of "making a difference" through their involvement and energy into projects that help send strong peer-to-peer messages that can have a positive impact on others.$4,374$4,374
Community Outreach - During 2019, Community Living Above initiated and sponsored community outreach activities relating to community education and support against substance abuse and other mental health issues. These activities include partnering with local Rotary Club and high school to bring Sources of Strength to our high school students, a best practice youth suicide prevention project designed to harness the power of peer social networks to change unhealthy norms and culture, ultimately preventing suicide, bullying, and substance abuse. We do this by increasing help seeking behaviors and promoting connections between peers and caring adults. Number served 100 youth leaders will support all students at West Linn high school (1850) plus 25 adult leaders. CLA also Co-sponsoring Chris Herren Presentation and Herren Project implementation to create a peer network in school to empower youth to make healthy choices. This program encourage overall wellness, development of coping skills and leadership in schools and communities. Over 800 people attended this event. We also held our annual "parents who host lose the most" campaign, which is a program to deter parents from hosting parties which include underage drinking at year end. Over 50 lawn signs and posters were placed around the community during May and June of 2019$4,353$4,353
