IRS990/Desc0Bismarck Mandan Development Association (BMDA) was created to support the continued economic growth of Burleigh and Morton counties including the small rural communities within these counties as well as the primary growth center of Bismarck-Mandan. BMDA has been assisting five rural communities within Burleigh and Morton counties. They have helped the towns of Almont, Flasher, Glen Ullin, Hebron, and New Salem with strategic planning, marketing plans, and redevelopment efforts. The combination of these various projects will result in the investment of tens of millions of dollars in capital funds, the creation of hundreds of quality new jobs and the growth of the local tax base.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0BMDA has also taken a key effort in assisting and guiding the major redevelopment of the Mandan central business district. The city of Mandan was very negatively affected by a major, long term fuel spill by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. Construction and installation of a comprehensive remediation system was completed in 2007. The system is fully operational and effectively removing the contaminants. With state law enacted to relieve property owners and private lenders of liability concerns, the City is now focusing squarely on redevelopment. The city of Mandan has hired a firm that specializes in planning and urban design to create a comprehensive redevelopment plan for the city. The redevelopment plan calls for mixed uses including new offices and professional services, dense housing, an events center, niche retail and casual/family dining.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0In the city of Bismarck, BMDA has been at the fore front of the development of the Northern Plains Commerce Centre Trans-loading and Intermodal Freight Center (NPCC). The NPCC is a premier industrial, distribution and technology park with immediate access to road and rail transport located in Bismarck, North Dakota. The NPCC allows companies to improve their ability to efficiently distribute products within the North Plains region and globally. Industrial expansion sites are available from five to 180 acres. The facility offers both rail and non-rail served sites. The city of Bismarck has invested $15 million in infrastructure including rails, water, sewer, streets, public trans-loading and warehouses. This facility was originally designed to allow Doosan Infracore's Bobcat Manufacturing to continue to compete in the global market by providing a competitive freight structure to ship product to the world market. Currently located adjacent to the Bismarck Airport, the NPCC is home to a 100,000 square foot Bobcat Company Manufacturing Sequencing Center (MSC) and Tubular Transport and Logistics (TTL). Tubular Transport and Logistics offers rail to truck reloading, trucking and storage services allowing non-rail served businesses to take advantage of long haul cost savings by using rail.

IRS990ScheduleI/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Bismarck Mandan Development Association (BMDA) was created to support the continued economic growth of Burleigh and Morton counties including the small rural communities within these counties as well as the primary growth center of Bismarck-Mandan. BMDA has been assisting five rural communities within Burleigh and Morton counties. They have helped the towns of Almont, Flasher, Glen Ullin, Hebron, and New Salem with strategic planning, marketing plans, and redevelopment efforts. The MAC, Inc. Grant was an example of MBDA aiding in the primary growth center of Bismarck-Mandan. The cities and organizations are allowed to request funds from BMDA as needed. BMDA will present the request to the Executive Committee for review and approval. If the requested amount is within the budget of BMDA, the funds are usually approved and granted. BMDA typically stays involved with the cities and organizations as they continue their development and to assure that the funds are used for the intended purpose.
