Mission

The mission of the kitchen, inc. Is to prevent and end homelessness in the communities we serve by providing housing and stabilizing services with dignity and compassion. To fulfill this mission, the kitchen has made the affirmative decision to focus on five primary areas: 1. Developing affordable housing: the kitchen believes that safe, decent, and affordable housing is a prerequisite to preventing future homelessness and ensuring that households exiting homelessness have the opportunity for long-term stable housing. 2. Community housing: for individuals and families working to end their homelessness, placement in integrated community housing is vital to long- term success and stability. 3. Homeless and at risk youth: homeless effects many populations, but none so dramatically as youth. By providing a safe environment where youth can access basic needs and effective support services to address barriers to housing, employment and treatement; we believe that these effects can be mitigat

IRS990/Desc0The Kitchens housing and community outreach programs work to prevent and end homelessness in the greater Springfield community. The Kitchen provides emergency and transitional housing to households that are currently experiencing homelessness. To aid in the transition from homelessness to community housing, The Kitchen operates several permanent housing programs that are both site and community based. The Kitchen is a Community Housing Development organization (CHDO) and has worked on several projects including Low Income Housing Tax Credit projects. The Kitchen also offers a comprehensive set of support services to help ensure long term stability for those we serve. Case management, mental and physical health care, life skills development, work hardening and access to mainstream benefit programs are available. Community outreach programs at The Kitchen work to help provide stability to individuals transitioning out of homelessness or in the community. By providing furniture, housewares, clothing and many other items necessary to establish and maintain permanent housing.

To fulfill this mission The Kitchen provides services in three main areas of concentration, housing, healthcare and community outreach. The Kitchens housing programs focus on preventing and ending homelessness. The Kitchens healthcare programs are safety net programs for those that do not have health insurance and fall below 130% of the federal poverty level. Community outreach programs at The Kitchen focus on providing assistance to individuals transitioning in the community. Furniture, clothes and other household items are the main focus of these programs.
