Children's psychiatric hospital- the 52-bed hospital-the only of its kind in johnson county-offers multiple levels of care to meet the evolving needs of the children and adolescents we serve. As a center of excellence for child psychiatry, our staff of highly trained mental health professionals collaborate with faculty/residents from the ku school of medicine to provide acute psychiatric care to patients 24/7. Emphasis is on stabilizing the client's symptoms and transitioning them into appropriate community- based intervention. In 2012, the hospital admitted more than 1,500 children ages 4-18 experiencing mental heatlh crises. After an average stay of 5-6 days, 97% achieved a decrease in suicide risk, 98% a decrease in physical aggression, and 94% a decrease in symptoms of psychosis.

Activity 3

Education-therapeutic day school- marillac's therapeutic day school (tds) offers a highly structured and individualized therapeutic education program for students (first through eighth grade) in a small class setting. Our day school coordinates services with school districts, families, and community mental health providers to promote a successful reintegration into the public school setting. Marillac offers the program in two locations: overland park, ks and blue springs, mo. In 2012, tds provided services to 51 students from more than a dozen different missouri and kansas school districts. By discharge, 88% of students had substantially decreased their aggressive behaviors towards others, thereby greatly improving their opportunities for success at school and in the community.
