With the continued establishment of state chapters, we are making significantly more impact in those areas. These chapters are extensions of our organization, acting as boots on the ground and staffed 100% by volunteers. We now have seventeen state flag adoptions with many more in process. Additionally, every u.s. State has a point of contact who continues to contribute to the organization with increased awareness and outreach efforts. I believe that we are slowly, deliberately and successfully changing the mindset of this nation. Only a portion of the extensive activity over the last year is mentioned here.”
“Nearly all of our 15 state chapters were represented for the 3 day weekend, enabling the bonding and sharing of ideas for the year ahead. Additionally we held our first advisory board meeting in which 18 trusted individuals gathered for a half day strategy discussion. This did not pan out as i had hoped throughout the year, primarily because of time available, but perhaps will be a starting point for growth. We continued our strategic partnership with the nascar organization, enabling us to reach individual gold star family members in a variety of states. And enable setting an historical precedent, the flying of 100 screen printed flags on memorial weekend, charlotte, nc. Fifty of these personalized representing the heroes in each state we also expanded our relationship with frontier communications and this year they implemented a program in each of their territories which encompasses 27 states that allowed for the sponsorship and presentation of nearly 60 personalized flags. New opportunities ahead. This year was also our fourth inclusion into the combined federal campaign (cfc), where we are able to take our message to military and federal employees through payroll deductions. We are working on applications for the state cfc campaigns for 2015, registration is required with each state. Continuing our benevolent goal of presenting personalized flags to every family who has lost a loved one in military service, hundreds of families were honored this year in many states. With the continued establishment of state chapters, we are making significantly more impact in those areas. These chapters are extensions of our organization, acting as boots on the ground and staffed 100% by volunteers. We now have nineteen state flag adoptions with many more in process. Additionally, every u.s. State has a point of contact who continues to contribute to the organization with increased awareness and outreach efforts.”
“Flag presentations: in 2014 more than 350 personalized flags were presented to gold star families across the u.s. At chapter and key events, including nascar tracks, vfw national convention, american gold star mothers weekend, gs banquet, run for the fallen events and many other venues. We are presenting personalized flags at the rate of one nearly every day. Honor and remember month: we decided late in 2012 that hr would name may 2013 as honor and remember month, asking our nation to focus on recognizing lives lost in events throughout the month, culminating with remembering the fallen on memorial day. This year we have expanded this concept, national press releases were sent and we began a campaign to solicit support from our chapter base, state representatives and media partners. We began a concept called "flag flash" in which individuals could express their support with a short few second video holding a flag and saying " i honor and remember". This was very successful for honor and remember month. We hope to expand this designation with a broader campaign in 2015. Each year this will be initiated with the virginia run for the fallen on the first weekend of may. Second annual virginia run for the fallen: following its organization in 2008 of a 4,000-mile national run for the fallen, honoring service members across the united states, honor and remember partnered with the founder to create the virginia run for the fallen. This event, coinciding with the honor and remember month of may, was composed of a dedicated team of runners and volunteers organized over four days and covered 236 miles stretching from fort story to arlington cemetery. Encompassing more than 15 cities and counties, this tribute trail pulled communities and gold star families together in an amazing display of honor and patriotism. Fifth annual gold star family evening: this is a holiday banquet designed to bring families together for a night of fellowship and entertainment. Last year we had approximately 250 families and guests. This year, december 7th, we hosted nearly 500 gold star families and guests attended from the community. Dennis miller was our personal guest and entertainer. We included woody williams, medal of honor recipient and william muhlieb, pearl harbor survivor. Families traveled from many states this year including california. This event is intended to be completely sponsored with no monetary outlay from our resources and using volunteer labor. This being pearl harbor day we focused on wwii. Five personalized flags were presented, one to each of families representing normandy, luxembourg and belgium. One for iraq and one afghanistan. Additionally, the event should generate some modest additional operating funds. Financially, our tabulation indicated an increase from previous year. State flag adoption update: currently, nineteen states have adopted the honor and remember flag as their state symbol of remembrance: va, nc, md, de, pa, nj, sc, az, ks, la, mo, or, ut, ok, sd, tn. States that passed adoption legislation in 2014 are south dakota and tennessee. At least fifteen other states are working on adoption legislation and we should see substantial progress in 2015. I believe our first milestone to reach more than half of the states in the nation will be reached next year. Nine in process of introducing in january, 2 passed senate, 1 passed house this year state chapter status: there are currently seven official llc honor and remember state chapters: virginia, north carolina, alaska, ohio, minnesota, texas and kansas. Seven additional chapters are in forming status: new hampshire, kentucky, massachusetts, connecticut, indiana and nebraska. Three have been suspended due to reorganization, arizona, florida and missouri. We are communicating with ten other states and awaiting formal paperwork. Our national chapter director has made tremendous progress in establishing and maintaining these chapters with a goal of increasing our efforts in 201”
“Liability for uncertain tax positions under fin 48 footnote: the organization adopted the recognition requirements for uncertain income tax positions as required by generally accepted accounting principles, with no cumulative effect adjustment required. Income tax benefits are recognized for income tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a return, only when it is determined that the income tax position will more- likely-than-not be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities. The organization has analyzed the tax positions taken in its filings with the internal revenue service. The organization believes that its income tax filing positions will be sustained upon examination and does not anticipate any adjustments that would result in a material adverse affect on the organization's financial condition, results of operations or cash flows. Accordingly, the organization has not recorded any reserves, or related accruals for interest and penalties for uncertain income tax positions at december 31, 2014.”
“The organization's federal return of organization exempt from income tax (form 990) for 2014, 2013, and 2012 are subject to examination by the irs, generally for three years after they were filed.”

OUR OBJECTIVES CONTINUE TO BE SUMMARIZED IN OUR FOUR CORNERSTONES: ESTABLISH, EDUCATE, PRESENT AND COMFORT. IN THIS SHORT REPORT YOU WILL READ ABOUT THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN EACH OF THESE AREAS. THE YEAR BEGAN WITH AN INVITATION TO SPEAK AT THE MILLER-COORS BOTTLING PLANT IN CLEVELAND, OHIO; A CRITICAL OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THE VISON TO NEARLY ONE THOUSAND EMPLOYEES AND RAISE THE FLAG. LATER IN JANUARY WE INITIATED OUR FIRST NATIONAL CHAPTER CONFERENCE HELD IN VIRGINIA BEACH. NEARLY ALL OF OUR 15 STATE CHAPTERS WERE REPRESENTED FOR THE 3 DAY WEEKEND, ENABLING THE BONDING AND SHARING OF IDEAS FOR THE YEAR AHEAD. THIS YEAR WAS ALSO OUR FOURTH INCLUSION INTO THE COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN (CFC), WHERE WE ARE ABLE TO TAKE OUR MESSAGE TO MILITARY AND FEDERAL EMPLOYEES THROUGH PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS. | IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 0 | FLAG PRESENTATIONS: IN 2014 MORE THAN 350 PERSONALIZED FLAGS WERE PRESENTED TO GOLD STAR FAMILIES ACROSS THE U.S. OUR NATIONAL CHAPTER DIRECTOR HAS MADE TREMENDOUS PROGRESS IN ESTABLISHING AND MAINTAINING THESE CHAPTERS WITH A GOAL OF INCREASING OUR EFFORTS IN 201 |

ONLY A PORTION OF THE EXTENSIVE ACTIVITY OVER THE LAST YEAR IS MENTIONED HERE. |
