Financial Statement Notes

Part X : FIN48 Footnote

The Organization has a tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and has adopted Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes, ASC 740-10. The Organization's policy is to evaluate uncertain tax positions, at least annually, for the potential for income tax exposure from unrelated business income or from loss of nonprofit status. The Organization continues to operate consistent with its original exemption application and each year takes the necessary actions to maintain its exempt status. It has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under the Internal Revenue Code and charitable contributions by donors are tax deductible.

IRS990/Desc0Civic Leadership InitiativesIn 2017, communities of practice, workshops, regional training sessions, webinars, and other professional development events have engaged more than 400 faculty, staff, and student and community leaders across the state, increasing their capacity to create strong partnerships that contribute to healthy, just, democratic communities while also supporting students' academic, professional, and civic development. Large majorities of participants in all events reported developing new skills, knowledge, connections, and commitments to action through these events. Minnesota Campus Compact also provides customized support to leaders planning and implementing civic engagement iniatitives and online educational resources freely accessible to anyone interested in supporting students' civic learning, action, and leadership development, with very positive feedback from users.AmeriCorps ProgramIn 2017, The College Health Corps VISTA program expanded from 12 to 15 participants serving full-time at campus-community partnership sites advancing health care access and health education. In the program year ending in 2017, participants have benefited thousands of low-income people, including 2,267 who received primary and preventative health care services, 3,696 who participated in health education programs, 3,208 who received healthcare access information through outreach initiatives, and 1,583 who received emergency food. Participants also recruited 438 volunteers, who contributed 5,249 hours to these efforts, trained 481 staff and volunteers, and helped generate $166,461 in cash resources and $18,380 in non-cash resources to support the partnerships. These AmeriCorps members receive education awards to use towards educational expenses or student loans, as well as leadership development and support from peers and staff. The program has received very positive evaluations by participants, site supervisors, and community partners, with large majorities reporting improved health knowledge, behaviors, and outcomes.Grants ProgramMinnesota Campus Compact leverages resources to support campus-community partnerships and civic engagement initiatives at higher education institutions. Funding for grants and mini-grants has come from a variety of public and private sources. All grants focus on addressing pressing social, economic, and educational issues by mobilizing the assets of colleges and universities together with those of communities. In 2017 Minnesota Campus Compact supported twelve leaders in facilitating Communities of Practice with faculty, staff, and community members interested in collaborative learning and leadership on critical issues in civic engagement, including creating accessible opportunities for students and enhancing dialogue and deliberation. Minnesota also began partnering with Iowa Camus Compact in 2017 to offer Principal Community Scholar awards to seven Minnesota students in business-related majors. Participants complete community leadership projects and access a leadership development program, along with a schoalrship.Recognition ProgramThrough awards, publications, and events, Minnesota Campus Compact seeks to recognize outstanding campus-community partnerships; increase the number, quality, and effectiveness of partnerships and promote college/university citizenship; encourage cooperation among education, community, government, and business leaders on critical social and economic issues; and increase public awareness of and support for campus-community partnerships. In 2017, major events included a statewide summit and awards ceremony, where Presidents' Awards were presented to student, community, and campus leaders, and in partnership with National Campus Compact, an expanded Newman Civic Fellows program.
