Financial Statement Notes

Part X : FIN48 Footnote

The Organization has a tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and has adopted Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes, ASC 740-10. The Organization's policy is to evaluate uncertain tax positions, at least annually, for the potential for income tax exposure from unrelated business income or from loss of nonprofit status. The Organization continues to operate consistent with its original exemption application and each year takes the necessary actions to maintain its exempt status. It has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under the Internal Revenue Code and charitable contributions by donors are tax deductible.

IRS990/Desc0Civic Leadership InitiativesMore than 500 filmed interviews, toolkits, and other educational resources have been posted on the Civic Leadership Initiative Online (CLIO) website since its launch in fall 2013, which has been accessed by over 4,000 people. These resources are freely accessible to anyone interested in supporting students' civic learning, action, and leadership development, and users' feedback through evaluative surveys, public ratings, and focus groups have been very positive. Workshops, other professional development events, and a new Cultural Agility Collaboration learning and leadership cohort have also engaged faculty, staff, and student and community leaders across the state in ways that will have lasting impact on their capacity to create strong partnerships that contribute to healthy, just, democratic communities while also supporting students' academic, professional, and civic development. Large majorities of participants in all events reported developing new skills, knowledge, connections, and commitments to action through these events.AmeriCorps Programs12 College Health Corps participants serve full-time at campus-community partnership sites advancing health care access and health education. In fiscal year 2015, participants have benefited thousands of low-income people, including 11,560 who received primary and preventative health care services, 43,725 who participated in prevention-related health education initiatives and events, and 6,052 who received healthcare information through outreach initiatives. The participants also recruited 813 volunteers, who contributed 13,290 hours to these efforts, and helped generate $231,925 in cash resources and $5,262 in non-cash resources to support the partnerships. These AmeriCorps members receive education awards to use towards educational expenses or student loans, as well as leadership development and support from peers and staff. The program has received very positive evaluations by participants, site supervisors, and community partners, with large majorities reporting improved health knowledge, behaviors, and outcomes.Grants ProgramsMinnesota Campus Compact leverages resources to support campus-community partnerships and civic engagement initiatives at higher education institutions. Funding for grants and mini-grants has come from a variety of public and private sources. All grants focus on addressing pressing social, economic, educational, and environmental issues by mobilizing the assets of colleges and universities together with those of communities. A new partnership with Youthprise was launched in fiscal year 2015 to provide matching grants supporting participatory action research projects that engage young people and adults in research related to educational environments, community engagement, and preparation for college, careers, and civic life. Funded projects will expand the role of young people in understanding and addressing educational opportunity gaps and advancing youth engagement, and inform ongoing efforts to improve educational cultures, policies, and practices to better serve Minnesotas increasingly diverse students.Recognition ProgramsThrough awards, publications, and events, Minnesota Campus Compact seeks to recognize outstanding campus-community partnerships; increase the number, quality, and effectiveness of partnerships and promote college/university citizenship; encourage cooperation among education, community, government, and business leaders on critical social and economic issues; and increase public awareness of and support for campus-community partnerships. In fiscal year 2015, major events included a statewide summit and awards ceremony, where Presidents' Awards were presented to student, community, and campus leaders, and an Upper Midwest Civic Engagement Summit.
