The organization is classified as a tax-exempt organization under minnesota statute 290.05 and section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code, is exempt from private foundation status under section 509(a)(1) of the internal revenue code and is subject to income taxes only on net unrelated business income. Management believes the organization did not have any unrelated business income in 2013. Urban homeworks, inc. And its wholly owned llc's file a consolidated income tax return. The organization is not currently under examination by any taxing jurisdiction. Federal and state tax authorities have the right to examine the current and prior three years income tax returns.

OUR EFFICIENT AND RESPONSIVE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT TEAM WORKS DILIGENTLY TO MEET THE NEEDS THAT ARISE WHICH CREATES THE EMOTIONAL SPACE PARENTS AND INDIVIDUALS NEED TO FOCUS ON RAISING THEIR FAMILIES. WE OFFER A CONTRACT-FOR-DEED (PROJECT: RECLAIM) OR A LEASE (NORTHSIDE HOME) AS A STEPPING STONE TO FULL OWNERSHIP SO THAT INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES CAN EXPERIENCE HOUSING STABILITY WHILE BUILDING A NEW FINANCIAL FOUNDATION.CONSTRUCTION TRAINEES THROUGH DYNAMIC PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL TRAINING ORGANIZATIONS, URBAN HOMEWORKS EQUIPS WOMEN, MEN AND YOUTH WITH THE SKILLS NEEDED FOR EMPLOYMENT IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. THROUGH THESE PARTNERSHIPS, URBAN HOMEWORKS HAS TRAINED MORE THAN 1,700 PEOPLE. USING OUR SITES AS A CLASSROOM, SKILLED TRAINERS TAKE PARTICIPANTS THROUGH A TRAINING PROGRAM THAT TEACHES THEM THE BASICS OF CONSTRUCTION SUCH AS TOOL USAGE, CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES, THEORY AND BASIC JOB SKILLS. AND WHILE THE TRAINING IS SPECIFIC TO THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY THE GOAL IS FOR EACH TRAINING GRADUATE TO GO ONTO FURTHER EDUCATION OR FIND LONG-TERM EMPLOYMENT IN THE INDUSTRY OF HIS OR HER CHOICE.VOLUNTEERS OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM RECRUITS AND FACILITATES ON-SITE WORK OF INDIVIDUALS, SCHOOLS, CHURCHES AND COMPANIES THAT DONATE TIME TO REBUILD VACANT AND/OR FORECLOSED PROPERTIES. ADDITIONALLY, TIME IS SPEND WITH EACH GROUP TEACHING THEM ABOUT THE ISSUES THAT OUR NEIGHBORS ARE FACING AND CHALLENGING PERCEPTIONS ABOUT URBAN NEIGHBORHOODS. PRIVATE MONTHLY DONATIONS MAKE RENTAL UNITS AVAILABLE TO FAMILIES MAKING AS LITTLE AS $10 PER HOUR WITHOUT A GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY, WHICH ARE IN SHORT SUPPLY. IN 2013 104 UNITS HOUSED 355 PEOPLE AND 47 URBAN NEIGHBORS. ON AVERAGE, OUR FAMILIES ARE EXPERIENCING STABILITY THREE TIMES LONGER THAN THOSE THAT HAVE FOUND AFFORDABLE HOUSING ELSEWHERE. THIS FOUNDATION CREATES OPPORTUNITIES FOR US TO BREAK CYCLES OF POVERTY AND TO KEEP OUR CHILDREN FROM ACADEMIC INSTABILITY (HIGHLY MOBILE CHILDREN ARE TWO SCHOOL YEARS BEHIND BY THE TIME THEY REACH SIXTH GRADE). URBAN NEIGHBORURBAN NEIGHBORS LIVE IN THE CENTRAL AND EAST PHILLIPS NEIGHBORHOODS OF SOUTH MINNEAPOLIS, THE HAWTHORNE AND NEAR-NORTH NEIGHBORHOODS OF NORTH MINNEAPOLIS, AND THE FROGTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD IN ST. PAUL. URBAN NEIGHBORS SIGN A ONE-YEAR COVENANT AND LEASE AND LIVE IN A DUPLEX OR AN APARTMENT WITH 2-5 OTHER PEOPLE IN A MIXED-INCOME HOUSING MODEL OPERATED BY URBAN HOMEWORKS. URBAN HOMEWORKS RECRUITS COLLEGE STUDENTS, GRADUATES, AND WORKING PROFESSIONALS TO RELOCATE TO ONE OF OUR PEOPLE-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENTS (POD'S). THERE THEY COMMIT TO ATTENDING MONTHLY MEETINGS LED BY LOCAL LEADERS, COMMUNITY MEMBERS, AND ORGANIZATIONS OFFER EDUCATIONAL PERSPECTIVES THAT REPRESENT THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMPLEXITIES AND ASSETS THAT EXIST IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS. THEY EACH COMMIT TO THREE HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE PER WEEK AND ENGAGE REGULARLY IN INTENTIONAL COMMUNITY GATHERINGS. 47 URBAN NEIGHBORS WERE PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM AT THE END OF 2013.COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT HOUSINGURBAN NEIGHBORS, TENANTS, AND HOMEOWNERS ARE PART OF URBAN HOMEWORKS' STRATEIC NETWORK OF GOOD NEIGHBORS. EACH PROPERTY IS INTENTIONALLY CHOSEN BASED ON LOCATION AND PROXIMITY TO OTHERS. THIS PAVES THE WAYFOR NEIGHBOR TO MORE READILY CONNECT WITH NEIGHBOR AND FOR US, TOGETHER, TO PROVIDE TOOLS AND CREATE SPACE FOR OUR PEOPLE ORIENTED DEVELOPMENTS TO BECOME THRIVING BLOCKS WITH DEEP-SEEDED RELATIONSHIPS AND A CULTURE OF MUTUAL ADVOCACY.
