Staff carried out 20 community visits to the 5 Sister Parish communities in El Salvador. Guatemala Sister Parish representatives and staff in Guatemala organized and participated in 2 country-wide representative meetings, one in Villa Nueva, Guatemala and the other in Chontalá, Quiché where the group organized the Southern Encounter and progressive Solidarity Walk. The Guatemala Directiva, which serves as an advisory board to the U.S.-based Board of Directors, met 4 times. San Antonio, Cunén, Quiché, Guatemala and Danville Congregational Church, Danville, California * Community Project: IN PROGRESS. The San Antonio committee is writing a project proposal. The original idea was to create a youth education project, but the community is now considering a micro-lending project. Tierra Nueva I, Chinautla, Guatemala and Faith Lutheran, West Fargo, ND * Vacation Bible School: Provided 70 students with the opportunity to spend their summer vacation in a safe environment with classes in theater, Bible education, and experiential learning activities. Tierra Nueva II, Chinautla, Guatemala and St. Joan of Arc, Minneapolis, MN * Scholarship Project: Provided tuition and school supplies for 17 middle school and high school students. Chichipate, Izabal, Guatemala and St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Bloomington, IL * Typing Academy Ajaw Aj: This project received start-up funds for construction and typewriters many years ago and is now locally sustainable, with additional support from the Ministry of Education. The typing academy makes it possible for students from Chichipate and nearby communities to get their typing diploma without having to travel, making this graduation requirement much more economically feasible for families. The program now has approximately 50 students. * Sister Parish Store: The store is continuing to find ways to diversify products that are sold at the store in order to increase income. The local committee continues in its search for additional funding to support this project. San Andres Itzapa, Chimaltenango, Guatemala and Christ Episcopal Church, Blacksburg, VA * Chay Balam Scholarship Project: Provided funding to 28 students in primary school and high school in 2016. Chontalá, Chichicastenango, Guatemala and Incarnation Lutheran, Shoreview, MN * Scholarship Project: Supported 25 primary students, most of whose mothers or grandmothers were widowed during the internal armed conflict. Program includes partial funding and tutoring. Guarjila, Chalatenango, El Salvador and Wallingford United Methodist Church, Seattle, WA * Scholarship Project: Supported 7 university students. The amount provided for each student was increased. High School students no longer receive scholarships through this program because they now receive support through government programs that provide uniforms and school supplies. San Antonio Los Ranchos, Chalatenango, El Salvador and First Lutheran Church, Duluth, MN * Scholarship Project: Provided support for three university students. One student graduated and another finished her coursework and began work on her thesis.$0$104,696
