Create a network to link Christian congregations in North America with other Christian communities in other parts of the world to promote lasting peace.

Sister Parish, Inc. 2015 Program Activities Delegation Travel Sister Parish organized and facilitated 6 delegations in 2015 with 35 participating delegates. Four delegations travelled from the U.S. to Central America and two travelled from Central America to the U.S. Activities and Events El Salvador Sister Parish continues to coordinate with the Association of Communities for the Development of Chalatenango (CCR), supporting program work, and participating in bi-monthly meetings for sistering communities. Staff attends special events such as the anniversary of the Rio Sumpul massacre and the anniversary of Jon Cortina's death. In 2015, staff carried out over 20 community visits to the 5 Sister Parish communities in El Salvador, and organized 4 meetings with the El Salvador Directiva, which serves as an advisory board to the U.S.-based Board of Directors. In October, Sister Parish staff and community members organized the annual Solidarity Walk, a gathering to reflect on sistering relationships and raise awareness in the communities about local issues. Guatemala Sister Parish representatives and staff in Guatemala organized and participated in 2 country-wide representative meetings held in Guatemala City and 3 meetings with the Guatemala Directiva, which also serves as an advisory board to the U.S.-based Board of Directors. Over 40 people participated in the annual Guatemala Solidarity Walk, during which participants marched in solidarity with global movements for peace and justice. Throughout the year, staff in Guatemala carried out 42 community visits to the 8 Sister Parish communities in Guatemala. United States A number of individuals and churches participated in the annual Solidarity Walk to support all people working for a more just world and to raise funds for Sister Parish, Inc. Staff organized two teleconference calls to connect U.S. church members, and facilitated additional conversations to provide support. The Sister Parish Board of Directors held 2 in-person meetings and 2 teleconference meetings, as well as numerous committee and planning sessions. .$0$80,488
Sister Parish facilitates and oversees community to community project funding Las Margaritas II, Ixcán, Guatemala and St. Francis of Assisi, Raleigh, NC * Scholarship Project: Provided support for tuition and school supplies for 24 students in primary and secondary school. San Antonio, Cunén, Quiché, Guatemala and Danville Congregational Church, Danville, California * Community Project: IN PROGRESS. The San Antonio committee is writing a project proposal. The original idea was to create a youth education project, but the community is now considering a micro-lending project. * Low-Income Family Support Project: Funds provided support to two low-income families in emergency situations. Tierra Nueva I, Chinautla, Guatemala and Faith Lutheran, West Fargo, ND * Vacation Bible School: Provided 70 students with the opportunity to spend their summer vacation in a safe environment with classes in theater, Bible education, and experiential learning activities. Tierra Nueva II, Chinautla, Guatemala and St. Joan of Arc, Minneapolis, MN * Scholarship Project: Provided tuition and school supplies for 14 middle school and high school students. Provided additional funding to organize youth group activities that encourage community service and responsibility. * Women United for Development: Funded the women's group in Tierra Nueva I and II in carrying out trainings on economic independence for women who work at home, as well as workshops on self-esteem, women's rights, crafts, leadership, spirituality, and gender. * Craft Project: Provided funds for materials and labor for handmade crafts later distributed at St. Joan of Arc as a fundraiser for joint activities. * Children's Christmas Party: Covered the costs of a Christmas party for hundreds of children in the community. Activities are organized by the youth group, providing leadership opportunities for youth. This year's theme was a circus. UPAVIM, La Esperanza, Guatemala and First United Methodist Church, Downers Grove, IL * School Supplies Project: First United and UPAVIM established a project that provided school supplies to more than 80 children to address the need for affordable schooling in this low income area of Guatemala. Chichipate, Izabal, Guatemala and St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Bloomington, IL * Typing Academy Ajaw Aj: This project received start-up funds for construction and typewriters many years ago and is now locally sustainable, with additional support from the Ministry of Education. The typing academy makes it possible for students from Chichipate and nearby communities to get their typing diploma without having to travel, making this graduation requirement much more economically feasible for families. The program now has approximately 50 students. * Sister Parish Store: The store has been moved to a more central location linked to the Catholic Church. The local committee continues in its search for additional funding to support this project. San Andres Itzapa, Chimaltenango, Guatemala and Christ Episcopal Church, Blacksburg, VA * Chay Balam Scholarship Project: Provided funding to 28 students in primary school and high school in 2015. Chontalá, Chichicastenango, Guatemala and Incarnation Lutheran, Shoreview, MN * Scholarship Project: Supported 25 primary students, most of whose mothers or grandmothers were widowed during the internal armed conflict. * Tutoring Project: The tutoring program began as a one year trial and the program was evaluated at the end of the year. Due to the success of the program, tutoring is now part of the long-term scholarship program. Guarjila, Chalatenango, El Salvador and Wallingford United Methodist Church, Seattle, WA * Scholarship Project: Supported 10 high school students and 16 university students. San Antonio Los Ranchos, Chalatenango, El Salvador and First Lutheran Church, Duluth, MN * Scholarship Project: Provided support for four university students with one student graduating this year. * Community Development Project: Provided gas for the community ambulance, food for elderly people, and hammocks and supplies for the community daycare center.$0$37,343
