Mission

Prg combines community-based affordable housing development with education and counseling to help all people and neighborhoods thrive. We accomplish our mission both by developing affordable housing in partnership with neighborhoods and other groups, and by educating and counseling first-time homebuyers and households at risk of foreclosure.

To provide affordable housing and related services that lead to neighborhood stability.

IN 2015, WE CONTINUED TO ALLOT THE MAJORITY OF OUR DEVELOPMENT CAPACITY TO REHABBING SINGLE-FAMILY, FORECLOSED HOMES AND CONSTRUCTING NEW SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES.SINGLE FAMILY DEVELOPMENTPRG WORKS PRIMARILY IN NORTH MINNEAPOLIS WITH A FOCUS ON THE JORDAN AND HARRISON NEIGHBORHOODS. EACH OF THESE AREAS HAS BEEN SEVERELY IMPACTED BY THE FORECLOSURE CRISIS AND SOUGHT OUR ASSISTANCE.IN 2015 PRG ACQUIRED 7 LENDER-OWNED SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES IN NEED OF SIGNIFICANT REHABILITATION. TWO CITY-OWNED VACANT LOTS WERE ACQUIRED FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION, BRINGING OUR TOTAL GREEN HOMES NORTH UNITS TO 10 AND BEGINNING OUR INFILL PARTNERSHIP WITH PHILLIPS IN SOUTH MINNEAPOLIS. OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, WE SOLD 15 HOMES TO LOW- AND MODERATE-INCOME HOMEBUYERS, THE MAJORITY OF WHICH WERE FIRST-TIME HOMEBUYERS AND 73% WERE HOUSEHOLDS OF COLOR.IN 2015, 100% OF PRG'S CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS WERE AWARDED TO BUSINESSES OWNED AND OPERATED BY PEOPLE OF COLOR.GREENWAY HEIGHTSALL 42 LARGE-FAMILY APARTMENTS THE GREENWAY HEIGHTS AFFORDABLE HOUSING APARTMENT BUILDING IN THE PHILLIPS NEIGHBORHOOD ARE FULLY LEASED UP. THE UNITS ARE AVAILABLE TO HOUSEHOLDS EARNING LESS THAN 50% OF THE AREA MEDIAN INCOME.

IN 2015, PRG OFFERED 18 FIRST-TIME HOMEBUYER WORKSHOPS, SERVING 449 HOUSEHOLDS (60% OF ATTENDEES WERE HOUSEHOLDS OF COLOR). PRG'S PRE-PURCHASED COUNSELORS ADVISED 229 FAMILIES DURING THE YEAR (61% OF CLIENTS WERE HOUSEHOLDS OF COLOR). OF 2015 WORKSHOP ATTENDEES, 93% HAD INCOMES UNDER 80% AMI; 64% HAD INCOMES UNDER 50% AMI. OF OUR PRE-PURCHASE HOMEBUYER COUNSELING CLIENTS, 80% HAD INCOMES UNDER 80% AMI; 48% HAD INCOMES UNDER 50% AMI.FORECLOSURE COUNSELINGPRG PROVIDED 50 FAMILIES WITH FREE, ONE-ON-ONE FORECLOSURE PREVENTION ASSISTANCE, A DECREASE OF 9% AS THE DEFAULT RATE CONTINUES TO DECLINE. OF THOSE WHOSE CASES WERE RESOLVED IN 2015, 79% OF CLIENTS AVOIDED FORECLOSURE. AS A RESULT OF OUR TARGETED OUTREACH AND OUR LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIPS WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THOSE WE SERVE ARE MEMBERS OF UNDERSERVED GROUPS: * 74% HAVE INCOMES UNDER 80% OF THE MEDIAN. * 53% HAVE INCOMES UNDER 50% OF THE MEDIAN. * 52% ARE HOUSEHOLDS OF COLOR
