Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To invite the world's finest recital soloists and ensembles to our community and to promote the finest musical talents of our community to the world. We do this through performances, education and museum programs, championing the music of today while celebrating great classical music of the past.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Museum: open six days a week throughout the year, the schubert club museum includes an impressive collection of rare and historic keyboard instruments and 100 original composer letters in the gilman ordway manuscript collection. One of the premier music museums in the country, it also features an indonesian gamelan orchestra and a set of early 20th century recorded music players. Designed to accommodate small to medium school group tours, the museum galleries are located on the second floor of the landmark center. Admission is free with 6,000 visitors annually. Regular performances and lectures, often featuring museum exhibits, are held in a dedicated gallery and promoted with the title "live at the museum". Free happy hour events are scheduled in collaboration with partner galleries in landmark center.
Activity 3
Education program: our education programs offer learning opportunities for 1,700 students of all ages. Project cheer, now in its 46th year, provides free piano and guitar lessons for over 100 students (grades 3-12) throughout the school year at the martin luther king center in saint paul. The prestigious bruce p. Carlson student scholarship competition sees 200 students compete annually for $50,000 in prizes to help fund their musical studies. The composer mentorship program offers four high school composers the opportunity to work throughout the school year with a schubert club composer-in-residence, and a professional chamber music group performs music they have composed at the end of the year. Other community engagement activities include master classes, ensemble performances in schools and residential nursing homes and pre-concert discussions and talks. School curriculum materials have been developed this summer to provide additional preparation for student groups visiting the museum.
