Mission
The american institute of architects minnesota, founded in 1892, is the professional association for the architecture profession in minnesota. As a state component of aia national, aia minnesota provides services to other aia chapters located in minnesota, produces a regional convention, publishes the award-winning magazine architecture mn, lobbies on behalf of the profession at the state legislature, and delivers continuing education to members. Mission: advancing a vital profession, vibrant communities, and architecture that endures.
AIA Minnesota was formed to develop and maintain itself as an organization that meets the needs of its members and the architectural profession.

“OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Homes By Architects Tour - AIA Minnesota created the tour to show the public what architect-designed homes look like and educate them about how and why they should work with an architect, specifically on their residential project, whether new or remodel. It's our largest event-specific promotion campaign including outside media, public relations and print/distribution partners. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Public Relations- Activities which enhance and promote the profession of architecture within the community at large. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Legislative - AIA MN retains legal representation to lobby the legislature on issues that pertain to the licensing of architects and related professionals, the legal definition of architecture and the services that architects provide, and the pervention of a sales tax on architectural services. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO STIMULATE CREATIVE THINKING ABOUT THE DESIGN INDUSTRY AND TO EDUCATE PEOPLE ABOUT CHANGES IN TECHNOLOGY AND CODES WHICH APPLY TO ARCHITECTURE. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: Documents- AIA MN sells AIA contract documents to members and the general public. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: Affordable Housing AIA Minnesota looks to improve the visibility and stature of affordable housing design to increase public support of affordable housing, recognize design and development teams and affordable housing organizations that have designed excellent, affordable housing projects, and encourage a broad understanding of how financing mechanisms, cost, diverse client populations, and community-based design processes contribute to a completed work of architecture.”

“The Organization has a tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code and has adopted Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes, ASC 740-10. The Organization's policy is to evaluate uncertain tax positions, at least annually, for the potential for income tax exposure from unrelated business income or from loss of nonprofit status. The Organization continues to operate consistent with its original exemption application and each year takes the necessary actions to maintain its exempt status.”
