“The executive committee is made up of nine members of the board of directors. Section vii (committees) of the bylaws provides for the executive committee. The by-laws give the executive committee full authority to act on behalf of the board of directors during the intervals between board meetings.”
“The bylaws were amended as of january 8, 2014 to include the following revisions: -the board of director terms were changed from one year terms to three year terms and limited to three consecutive terms or nine years.”
“The form 990 is reviewed by the cfo and ceo. It is also provided to and reviewed by the finance committee and the full board of directors before it is filed. The form 990 is also discussed during meetings of the board or the respective committees.”
“Each board member and key members of management signs the organization's conflict of interest policy once a year. In addition, a standard agenda item for all board and committee meetings is to ask if anyone has any conflicts of interest with the agenda. An interested person may make a factual presentation at the board or committee meeting, but after such presentation, he or she shall leave the meeting during the discussion of, and the vote on, the transaction or arrangement that results in the conflict of interest. An interested person shall not actively participate in the discussion of, or vote on, the transaction or arrangement that results in the conflict of interest, either formally at a board or committee meeting or informally through contact with individual board or committee members. In addition, the interested person should not be counted in determining whether a quorum is present for the board or committee meeting at which the transaction or arrangement that results in the conflict of interest is to be voted upon.”
“The compensation for the ceo is determined by the executive committee of the board of directors. The executive committee conducts a performance review, then using a salary survey of the twin cities for similar sized non-profits and/or other factors decides upon the compensation level for the next budget year. All other employees are compensated using similar information to establish ranges for each position, then, the executive committee decides upon a cost of living increase for all employees (except for the ceo) and approves it with final budget approval.”
“Senior community services makes its articles of incorporation, bylaws, conflict of interest policies and financial statements available to the public upon request.”
“Change in pension obligation -557,947.”
“There was no change in either the oversight process of the audit or the selection process of the independent auditors during the tax year.”
“Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require the organization to evaluate positions taken by the organization and recognize a tax liability (or asset) if the organization has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by applicable tax authorities. Management has analyzed tax positions taken by the organization, and has concluded that as of december 31, 2014 and 2013, there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability (or asset) or disclosure in the financial statements.”
“Direct fundraising expenses 18,599. Change in pension obligation -557,947.”

MOST CLIENTS ARE OVER AGE 80, HALF LIVE ALONE, AND NEARLY TWO-THIRDS LIVE ON VERY LOW INCOMES. THEY ARE FRAIL AND OFTEN STRUGGLING WITH CHRONIC PROBLEMS: SOCIAL ISOLATION, POVERTY, PHYSICAL CONDITIONS, COGNITIVE OR PSYCHOLOGICAL CHALLENGES. CAREGIVERS OFTEN ARE OVERWORKED, OVERWHELMED AND BORDERING ON BURNOUT WHEN THEY SEEK SERVICES. (1,038 SENIORS AND CAREGIVERS SUPPORTED AND STABILIZED IN 2014). CARENEXTION (WWW.CARENEXTION.ORG) IS A FREE, INNOVATIVE ONLINE RESOURCE, DEVELOPED BY SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICES TO HELP CAREGIVERS AND FAMILIES MANAGE THE CARE OF AN OLDER LOVED ONE. IT IS COMPASSIONATE TECHNOLOGY THAT LETS FAMILIES EASILY COMMUNICATE, COORDINATE CARE AND ACCESS VALUABLE RESOURCES (1,309 UNIQUE USERS ACCESSED SENIOR RESOURCES AND 271 REGISTERED USERS PARTICIPATED ON 76 CARE TEAMS IN 2014). SENIOR PARTNERS CARE IS A STATEWIDE PROGRAM ENABLING QUALIFIED MINNESOTA SENIORS TO GET HELP BRIDGING THE BURDENSOME FINANCIAL GAP BETWEEN THEIR MEDICAL BILLS AND THE PARTIAL AMOUNT COVERED BY MEDICARE. THANKS TO NEGOTIATED PARTNERING ARRANGEMENTS WITH HUNDREDS OF HOSPITALS, CLINICS AND PROVIDERS STATEWIDE, SENIORS MAY HAVE ALL OR PART OF THEIR HEALTHCARE DEBT WAIVED. THE DECISION TO WAIVE A MEDICARE DEDUCTIBLE, COINSURANCE OR CO-PAYMENT OWED BY A MINNESOTA SENIOR IS MADE BASED ON THE SENIOR'S FINANCIAL SITUATION. TO QUALIFY FOR SENIOR PARTNERS CARE, MINNESOTA SENIORS MUST RECEIVE CARE BY PARTICIPATING MEDICAL PROVIDERS, MUST HAVE MEDICARE A & B, MEET INCOME AND ASSET THRESHOLDS, AND SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AND A MODEST ANNUAL FEE (1,064 SENIORS WERE ABLE TO AFFORD CARE AND AVOID FINANCIAL DEVASTATION IN 2014). MEDICARE HEALTH INSURANCE COUNSELING, WHICH IS AVAILABLE FREE OR LOW-COST FOR ALL MINNESOTANS, MAY SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE OUT-OF-POCKET HEALTHCARE COSTS ANNUALLY. THE STAFF OF HIGHLY TRAINED VOLUNTEER COUNSELORS HELP SENIORS AND CAREGIVERS FIND THE MOST APPROPRIATE COVERAGE FROM COMPLEX MEDICARE, MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTS AND PART D PLANS. MEDICARE COVERAGE CAN CHANGE FOR PARTICULAR MEDICAL NEEDS AND MEDICATIONS, SO IT'S IMPORTANT TO ANNUALLY REVIEW COVERAGE BEFORE OR DURING THE FALL MEDICARE ELECTION PERIOD. MEDICARE COUNSELING CAN RESULT IN BIG SAVINGS FOR THE POCKETBOOK. THE STAFF CAN EVEN HELP RESOLVE OUTSTANDING HEALTH INSURANCE CLAIMS THAT ARE A FINANCIAL BURDEN FOR MANY SENIORS (1,875 SENIORS REASSURED AND GUIDED BY UNBIASED, PEER-VOLUNTEER-DELIVERED INFORMATION IN 2014). |
