Mission

Daystar provides a safe haven for women survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and empowers them to triumph over trauma and overcome barriers to leading successful, productive lives, free from violence. Daystar's transformational and life-changing services go far beyond a 'band-aid' approach by providing safe housing, emotional healing and individualized counseling for up to two years. The program focuses on helping survivors develop the skills necessary to break the cycle of abuse.

Daystar provides a program of transitional housing and supportive services for women who have experienced abuse and trauma in their life.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

All directors and officers annually complete and sign a statement that discloses interests that could give rise to conflicts. After determining that a conflict of interest exists, an interested person may make a presentation at a meeting of the governing body. After making the presentation, the interested person shall recuse himself or herself and leave the meeting during the discussion of, and the vote on, the transaction or arrangement involving the conflict of interest. If, in the judgment of the governing body, a perception of a conflict of interest might remain even after recusal, the chair shall, if appropriate, appoint a disinterested person or committee to investigate alternatives to the proposed transaction or arrangement. After exercising due diligence, the governing body shall determine whether society can obtain with reasonable efforts a transaction or arrangement of at least equal advantage from a person or entity that would not give rise to a conflict of interest. If a transaction or arrangement of at least equal advantage is not reasonable or possible under circumstances not producing a conflict of interest, the governing body shall determine by a majority vote of the disinterested members whether the transaction or arrangement is in society's best interest, for its own benefit, and whether it is fair and reasonable. In conformity with the above determination, it shall make its decision as to whether to enter into the transaction or arrangement.
