The Executive Director submits an extensive self-assessment to the Board Chair and the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Simultaneously, the Board engages in benchmarking salary guidelines across the sector in the region. The Executive Director is asked to develop an action plan and set goals on an annual basis. EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 12, 2011, THE ORGANIZATION REGISTERED A LEGAL NAME CHANGE FROM THE PREVIOUS NAME OF NEWARK PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION, INC. TO NEWARK TRUST FOR EDUCATION, INC. AS A LOCAL EDUCATION FUND, THE TRUST ADVOCATES FOR INVOLVEMENT IN PUBLIC EDUCATION BY ALL SEGMENTS OF THE PUBLIC. THE TRUST WORKS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY AND HIGH STANDARDS; ALIGNS AND FOCUSES RESOURCES; AND FACILITATES AND MANAGES COLLABORATIONS IN ORDER TO ENSURE A QUALITY PUBLIC EDUCATION FOR ALL CHILDREN IN NEWARK. Line 4a Engagement The Trust is committed to public engagement that elevates all voices in support of quality public education for all Newarks children. The Trust seeks to expand outreach, strengthen relationships across sectors and communities, and deepen the understanding of issues, concerns, proposed strategies and initiatives facing public education in Newark, all in an effort to increase the number of children who are prepared for college and/or a career. The Trusts engagement series is focused on broadening the conversation about educational issues critical to the ongoing improvement of public schools in Newark, while fostering inclusive outreach, continued participation, and a commitment to productive, solution based discussion. Line 4b Grantmaking Established in 2011, the Newark Public Schools Funders collaborative for High Quality School Options Funders Collaborative is a network of local, regional, and national funders committed to providing high-quality public school options for all Newark students. Through targeted investments the Funders Collaborative is committed to creating safe, supportive and effective schools that address the multidimensional needs of students. A primary component of this work is to empower school leaders and principals to advocate for change at the district and city level in order to support our students effectively. With mental health services and social emotional support for students and staff identified among the most common needs of school leaders in Newark, the Funders Collaborative allocates resources towards school-wide approaches to strengthening and improving social-emotional learning programs and trauma-informed services. Programmatic areas supported by the Funders Collaborative include: Professional Development and Staff Training on best practices in SEL implementation, trauma-informed care approaches, and data collection and evaluation; Direct Mental Health Services; School Climate and Culture initiatives with an emphasis on establishing healthy and supportive learning environments; and Classroom Instruction and Strategies based on behavioral health and social-emotional learning. In addition to grant awards the Funders Collaborative provides school leaders with the opportunity to receive technical assistance, encourage innovation and facilitate shared learning with peers through collaborative convening, and create strategic networks with stakeholders across the city.
