Activity 2

Palestine/israel we have secured two additional anchors and in dialogue with others, but continue to struggle to find people who can commit to the program over several years. We increased the number of available international team trainers to nine (also increasing basic skills trainers). We have not been able to sustain ongoing teams without a gap during 2011-2012 due to a shortage of people able to make long-term commitments, often due to personal economic factors. We have placed three short-term international teams during 2011-2012 with two additional teams still to deploy. In may of 2012 we were awarded, by the "popular committee of nablus" region, in appreciation for our work in our headquarters region of palestine. We have a fall team in training now.

Activity 3

Sisters of mercy during the 2011-2012 grant year, we were able to offer 37 nonviolence skills trainings (our initial goal for the year was 5) resulting in 550 people trained in nonviolence skills and prepared to participate in peace teams. Additionally, though our initial goal of presentations was targeted for 50, in the end we were able to offer 158 presentations - some quite large and others very small - thereby reaching approximately 12,153 people with the message of the efficacy of nonviolence. Finally, we were able to field three international peace teams to the west bank and one emergency peace team to panama; one more than what we had aimed for this year. It is difficult to ascertain how many people this peace team work has affected: not only are there people we come in direct contact with as we engage in third-party nonviolent intervention work, but also those who are affected indirectly as they read our articles and blog postings about the impact this work is having - further reinforcing the precept that "nonviolence works".
