Being. Support services focus on whole-school, group and individual interventions. Service categories include (but are not limited to): basic needs, behavior interventions, youth empowerment, family engagement, building assets and life skills, academic assistance, community service, ? Nancial stability, substance abuse prevention and post-secondary exploration/career opportunities. Graduation coaching - individualized support to enhance student success and address challenges with academics, including: understanding school work, completing assignments, turning in homework, staying organized, attending school regularly, and/or managing personal concerns that can interfere with academics. Provision of basic needs items - friday food packs - food packs including ready to-eat and simple snacks that are sent home with students in need to supply nutrients over the weekend. This program is generously sponsored by kiwanis of tecumseh, gleaners insurance tecumseh arbor, and community members. Cista locker room at tms- new and gently used clothing is made available for elementary, middle and high school students in need at tps. Eye care assistance - students in need receive a free eye exam and glasses through the generous support of the tecumseh lions club eye care assistance program. Children's special health care services - provided through the lenawee county health department where families in need of help with medical bills for their children with chronic health conditions can receive support and connection to community-based services. Mentoring & tutoring - lunch pal - adults are paired with elementary/middle school students providing a mentoring opportunity during lunchtime, one hour per week. 8th grade tutors and mentors - 8th grade students' tutor and mentor 5th & 6th grade students. After-school homework help - tms students can stay afterschool on mondays and wednesdays to get work done and receive help from nhs, varsity club and key club students. P.a.s.s. Program (parents and students study) - all 5th grade students take part in a "learning styles test" to discover the way they learn and tips are given on how to study more effectively. School climate - 4th grade transition day - all 4th grade students will spend the day at tms learning what it is like to be a 5th grader with tours of the school, team building activities, concerts, plays, 5th grade classroom experience and opportunity to eat lunch in the cafeteria. 5th grade team building - students participate in a variety of team building activities facilitated by cista, united way day of action volunteers and community members. Jr. Sadd (student's against destructive decisions) - with the help of the tecumseh coalition for youth, a sadd chapter has been started at the middle school. Leader in me - cista is helping tecumseh public schools promote leadership qualities all students can learn through the leader in me. Developing these 7 habits and leadership skills in elementary school will help prepare students for the future. Voices for change - county-wide initiative that invites students to design positive change projects for their school and community. Hospice of lenawee (hol) - cista collaborates with hol to bring grief and loss supports to ths and tms students. Post-secondary & career development - payback for education tecumseh - patterned after a county program, local businesses and educators join together to plan hands-on work site experiences for 8th graders. Pen pals - business people exchange letters with 6th grade students emphasizing the importance of education in attaining career goals. Good to great day - college/career fair with programming for seniors to consider their future beyond high school. College application week - state-wide initiative to encourage all high school seniors to apply for post-secondary educational opportunities. GRADUATION COACHING - INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT TO ENHANCE STUDENT SUCCESS AND ADDRESS CHALLENGES WITH ACADEMICS, INCLUDING: UNDERSTANDING SCHOOL WORK, COMPLETING ASSIGNMENTS, TURNING IN HOMEWORK, STAYING ORGANIZED, ATTENDING SCHOOL REGULARLY, AND/OR MANAGING PERSONAL CONCERNS THAT CAN INTERFERE WITH ACADEMICS. PROVISION OF BASIC NEEDS ITEMS - FRIDAY FOOD PACKS - FOOD PACKS INCLUDING READY TO-EAT AND SIMPLE SNACKS THAT ARE SENT HOME WITH STUDENTS IN NEED TO SUPPLY NUTRIENTS OVER THE WEEKEND. THIS PROGRAM IS GENEROUSLY SPONSORED BY KIWANIS OF TECUMSEH, GLEANERS INSURANCE TECUMSEH ARBOR, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. CISTA LOCKER ROOM AT TMS- NEW AND GENTLY USED CLOTHING IS MADE AVAILABLE FOR ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NEED AT TPS. EYE CARE ASSISTANCE - STUDENTS IN NEED RECEIVE A FREE EYE EXAM AND GLASSES THROUGH THE GENEROUS SUPPORT OF THE TECUMSEH LIONS CLUB EYE CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. CHILDREN'S SPECIAL HEALTH CARE SERVICES - PROVIDED THROUGH THE LENAWEE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT WHERE FAMILIES IN NEED OF HELP WITH MEDICAL BILLS FOR THEIR CHILDREN WITH CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITIONS CAN RECEIVE SUPPORT AND CONNECTION TO COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICES. MENTORING & TUTORING - LUNCH PAL - ADULTS ARE PAIRED WITH ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS PROVIDING A MENTORING OPPORTUNITY DURING LUNCHTIME, ONE HOUR PER WEEK. 8TH GRADE TUTORS AND MENTORS - 8TH GRADE STUDENTS' TUTOR AND MENTOR 5TH & 6TH GRADE STUDENTS. AFTER-SCHOOL HOMEWORK HELP - TMS STUDENTS CAN STAY AFTERSCHOOL ON MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS TO GET WORK DONE AND RECEIVE HELP FROM NHS, VARSITY CLUB AND KEY CLUB STUDENTS. P.A.S.S. PROGRAM (PARENTS AND STUDENTS STUDY) - ALL 5TH GRADE STUDENTS TAKE PART IN A "LEARNING STYLES TEST" TO DISCOVER THE WAY THEY LEARN AND TIPS ARE GIVEN ON HOW TO STUDY MORE EFFECTIVELY. SCHOOL CLIMATE - 4TH GRADE TRANSITION DAY - ALL 4TH GRADE STUDENTS WILL SPEND THE DAY AT TMS LEARNING WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE A 5TH GRADER WITH TOURS OF THE SCHOOL, TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES, CONCERTS, PLAYS, 5TH GRADE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE AND OPPORTUNITY TO EAT LUNCH IN THE CAFETERIA. 5TH GRADE TEAM BUILDING - STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN A VARIETY OF TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES FACILITATED BY CISTA, UNITED WAY DAY OF ACTION VOLUNTEERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. JR. SADD (STUDENT'S AGAINST DESTRUCTIVE DECISIONS) - WITH THE HELP OF THE TECUMSEH COALITION FOR YOUTH, A SADD CHAPTER HAS BEEN STARTED AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL. LEADER IN ME - CISTA IS HELPING TECUMSEH PUBLIC SCHOOLS PROMOTE LEADERSHIP QUALITIES ALL STUDENTS CAN LEARN THROUGH THE LEADER IN ME. DEVELOPING THESE 7 HABITS AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WILL HELP PREPARE STUDENTS FOR THE FUTURE. POST-SECONDARY & CAREER DEVELOPMENT - PAYBACK FOR EDUCATION TECUMSEH - PATTERNED AFTER A COUNTY PROGRAM, LOCAL BUSINESSES AND EDUCATORS JOIN TOGETHER TO PLAN HANDS-ON WORK SITE EXPERIENCES FOR 8TH GRADERS. PEN PALS - BUSINESS PEOPLE EXCHANGE LETTERS WITH 6TH GRADE STUDENTS EMPHASIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION IN ATTAINING CAREER GOALS.
