“The citizens mediation service, inc. Provided low-cost / no cost mediation services in berrien, van buren, cass, branch, and st. Joseph counties in michigan. The agency conducted mediations in the following areas: court actions (district, civil, family, juvenile, probate); special education issues, civil rights complaints, business disputes, and property issues. A large proportion of clients had their mediation fees waived who fell below federal income guidelines. Trained volunteers and staff provided these mediation sessions at great savings in time and dollars to the court system and to families. During 2016, the organization mediated 284 cases out of the 664 that were referred to the center. All cases were mediated by trained volunteers. The largest volume of cases by type were: breach of contract, followed by domestic mediation, landlord/tenant, and schools.”
