Activity 2

Policy and research:mhec's 6th annual policy summit, "restore, revitalize, renew: higher education's role in the economic transformation of communities," demonstrated examples of community development and community transformation resulting from partnerships between higher education institutions, business and industry, government, and community agencies. Mhec also completed three grant-funded initiatives in fy11: 1) an exploration of a web-based platform to improve the credit transfer process and facilitate improved degree completion; 2) development of a data modeling tool to assist states in planning and resource allocation to address projected workforce needs; and 3) facilitation of stakeholder focus groups in all 12 member states on strategies to increase quality postsecondary degree production in a time of limited fiscal resources.

Activity 3

Cost savings: mhec's cost savings program has saved the member states:-hardware: $25,119,516-software: $ 1,412,932-master property: $ 9,543,698mhec completed the third year of the energy/health initiative funded by lumina foundation for education. In the three-year time frame mhec was unable to establish a cost savings program in energy. In health care, mhec created a pharmacy benefit management (pbm) contract to provide institutions in mhec states access to discounts on pharmacy purchases. Mhec continues to launch a midwest student health collaborative, mhecare, which will offer potential cost-saving opportunities for colleges and universities as well as their students. In addition, mhec's cost savings programs in many cases can also be utilized by city, county, and state government as well as nonprofit organizations.
