Activity 2

Sustainable communities: mec calls for re-investment in michigans urban centers and other established communities as an antidote to sprawl and the loss of farms, forests and open spaces. Mec supports transformative change to michigans transportation system to catalyze sustainable land-use, spur economic activity in our cities and towns, and connect people to jobs, affordable housing and other opportunities. Mec favors investments in public parks and natural areas, and promotes sustained, healthy ecosystems and biological diversity.

Activity 3

Clean plentiful water: mec works to protect water from toxins like mercury, and contamination from inadequate municipal sewer systems, failing septic, agricultural runoff, and leaking underground petroleum storage tanks. Mec promotes conservation and defends michigan lakes, rivers and streams from adverse impacts related to unwise use and diversion of our water outside the great lakes basin. Mec works to defend inland seas from harmful invasive species, and advocate for protection of drinking water sources and vital wetlands.
