Mission

The mission of senior services, inc., is to promote the well-being of all elders, with special commitments to those who are most vulnerable. Senior services will provide leadership in the delivery, promotion, and coordination of community and social services. The agency will actively advocate on behalf of its clients and the older adult population. Senior services will work in collaboration with families and organizations sharing interest in elders. All activities of senior services will reflect concern for the dignity of the individual and will be conducted in a caring, compassionate way, demonstrating the highest standards of professional excellence.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Referral sources to any senior, family and community members in need of assistance. Senior center - this program gives older adults a variety of volunteer, enrichment, educational, social, and recreational opportunities. Behavioral health and wellness - this program serves adults, age 55 or over, who are at immediate risk of psychiatric hospitalization or out-of- home placement due to the onset of mental illness or chronic mental illness. Obra/nursing home monitoring - nursing home screening and annual review. Tobacco respite care - this program provides a break from the responsibilities of care giving for specified block of time. Coover emergency fund - this program provides for those people in the community with emergency needs who don't have the ability to pay.

Volunteer opportunities mmap - information and advocacy on medicare, medicaid, long-term care insurance, supplemental insurance, and prescription assistance. Retired senior volunteer program - this program provides volunteer opportunities for people, age 55 and over, to enable them to actively participate in their community. Foster grandparent - this volunteer program allows seniors 60 years and older to serve children with special needs. Senior companion program - this program matches low-income senior volunteers with frail, elderly and developmentally disabled "companions." volunteers provide 20 hours of service per week and receive a small stipend. Give - offers volunteers 18 and older, the opportunity to provide free assistance to seniors and the disabled, to help them remain independent and in their own home.

Form 990, part x lines 15 and 27 - certain errors, as a result of an overstatement of investment income related to beneficial interest in assets held by kalamazoo community foundation (kcf) in the year ended september 30, 2015, resulted in an overstatement of previously reported beneficial interest assets held by the kalamazoo community foundation as of september 30, 2015, and investment income for the year then ended. This misstatement was discovered in the current year. Income and beneficial interest in assets held by kcf was restated as follows: overstated interest income from kcf (103,022)

The internal revenue service has determined the organization to be exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Management does not believe that there are any uncertain tax positions that would require disclosure. Management of the organization considers the likelihood of changes by taxing authorities in its exempt organization returns and discloses potential significant changes that management believes are more likely than not to occur upon examination by tax authorities. Management has not identified any uncertain tax positions in filed returns that require disclosure in the accompanying combined financial statements.
