Activity 2

Traditional Training & Placement Program: The Cara Program's "traditional" services include a comprehensive range of training and support for motivated individuals affected by poverty and homelessness, including life skills training, specialized job skills training, and personalized career placement services. As core to our 'personalized career placement services,' TCP focuses on securing quality, permanent employment opportunities for its participants. "Quality" is defined as positions that (1) are permanent or temporary to permanent; (2) align with certain wage goals (3) have benefits or the near-term opportunity for benefits; and (4) are a minimum of 25 hours per week.

Activity 3

Employment Retention: To ensure that students of The Cara Program's Traditional Services have the tools they need for long-term self-sufficiency, The Cara Program offers "aggressive outreach" throughout each student's first year of employment. These services include: regular one-on-one meetings with employed students about on-the-job successes and challenges; and development of individual long-term goals, including goals related to housing, education, and debt repayment. As a result of this retention support, over 75% of employed Cara students receiving this support remain in their first job placement for at least one year. Included in Employment Retention is the Eleanor Self-Sufficiency Initiative, a partnership with the Eleanor Foundation, in which The Cara Program has had the opportunity to provide over 100 women (employed Cara students) with two years of personalized and intensive counseling and supportive services. In these two years, The Cara Program intentionally focuses on career advancement, increasing earnings, accumulating wealth (and resolving debt), educational attainment and leadership development for these employed women.
