Neighbors helping neighbors 23,887 individuals served 2,367 neighbors volunteered 81,187 hours our tagline truly does say it all - neighbors helping neighbors. In 1975, people's resource center was started by a group of concerned residents who wanted to bring neighbors together to address and prevent hunger. They handed out bags of groceries through the basement window of a house in wheaton. Today, we a multi-service agency for community members to come together and support one another. Our guests walk through our food pantries and select their own fresh produce, lean proteins and nutritious grains. They can stop in twice each month and choose the foods that work for their family tastes and lifestyle. Guests can discover computer training and technology access, social services, clothing, job search support, art enrichment, and literacy classes and tutoring. All prc services are provided at no cost to dupage county residents. Prc regularly serves those considered low and very low income and older adults or disabled residents with fixed incomes. Our programs are made possible by the generous support of the community, through volunteering, in-kind donations and financial support. Prc connects neighbors to services and opportunities that can support their wellbeing and stability, especially in times of crisis. In march 2020, the covid-19 pandemic created deep uncertainty for thousands of families across dupage county. Since then, prc has focused on providing essential services, especially food and emergency financial assistance. Emergency services food pantry staple pantry goods | fresh produce | frozen meats | dairy products | household necessities social services homeless prevention | financial assistance clothes closet clothing | shoes | coats while these emergency services have been the center of our covid response, we know that our empowerment programs will eventually see higher demand as residents seek opportunities to strengthen their skillsets and expand their career options and earning potential. Our goal is to eventually connect residents to these opportunities virtually, from the comfort of home. Empowerment services job assistance job coaching | job readiness workshops | resume review computer training microsoft office specialist certification computer access free refurbished computers and computer repair adult learning & literacy program literacy classes | tutoring | summer science | esl | ged | citizenship art program adult art classes | kids art classes as a leader and a trusted service organization, prc connects neighbors to the tools and resources they need to thrive.
