Activity 2

Health & well being for all: at a time when 17 percent of children and nearly one-third of adults are classified as obese, the ymca provides 1,450 young people with the supportive relationships and environments they need for their successful pursuit of health and wellbeing in spirit, mind, and body. Men, women, and children of all ages, faiths, backgrounds, abilities, and income levels improve health and well-being at the ymca. In addition to the more than 18,000 members served, 450 children attend camp on site. This program focuses on physical, mental, social, and character development. Youth sports, aquatics, senior preschool classes in addition to programs for those with disabilities are available to everyone without financial barriers.

Activity 3

Family strengthening: parents now spend an average of 10-12 hours less per week with their children than they did in 1960. The ymca is committed to helping families build stronger bonds by bringing them together in a variety of activities that help form stable relationships, enhance communication, and promote healthier lifestyles. Our ymca helps families build stronger bonds, achieve greater work/life balance, and become more engaged with their communities. The ymca facility and programs are designed to accommodate and provide programs for people of all ages. Nearly 1 million visits per year by over 18,000 members and their families attest to the demand for ymca family services. Over $230,000 in financial assistance is approved annually. Our 72 participant child care center enables parents to work and earn a living while their children are in a values based development program.
