Activity 2

In FY12, Lawrence Hall Youth Services' Therapeutic Day School educated nearly 120 students with emotional challenges, behavioral disorders, and learning disabilities that inhibit success in their local public school settings. A rigorous curriculum aligned with the Illinois State Learning Standards, combined with the Classroom Community Model (an evidence-based affective education program) allows students to achieve academic progress while learning the self-regulation and pro-skills they need to be successful beyond the school walls. In FY12 there was a nearly 20% gain in academic test scores and a 92% graduation rate. All Therapeutic Day School teachers hold special education certification and over 60% have a master's degree. For the second consecutive year the National Association of Special Education Teachers recognized LHYS' Therapeutic Day School as a School of Excellence for its exceptional dedication, commitment, and achievement in the field of special education. Activity 3

In FY12, the Workforce Development Program served nearly 300 youth across the Lawrence Hall Youth Services continuum as it continued to grow its efforts to prepare young adults to enter the workforce, providing them with job readiness skill-building, mock interviews, social skills enhancement, job coaching, internships, and supported job placement. Our talented City Chefs, a culinary arts program in partnership with After School Matters offered an additional 30 youth the opportunity to explore food services and increased opportunities to showcase their culinary talents, catering special events and family dinners. Also in FY12, 80 youth participated in the Campus Works program, 51 youth obtained competitive community employment, and 51 youth participated in community based job readiness or job placement programs.
