The Charity is organized and operate din order to increase the production of food crops by poor, smallholder farmers in under-developed countries in order to allow them to improve their nutritional and economic wellbeing. The Charity shall pursue these aims in countries and regions of the world where access to food for a balanced, nutritious diet is insufficient and where improved agricultural practices have the potential to lift rural families out of poverty. The Charity shall provide financial and technical support for the breeding of new varieties of food crops adapted to local conditions. It shall also provide financial and technical support to create a system of supplying seed from the new crop varities among poor smallholder farmers. “Ssg's human resources policies and procedures guidelines requires ssg personnel to uphold and promote the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct, and carry out their duties with honesty, integrity and professionalism. It states that it is critical for staff to avoid conflicts of interest, or even the appearance of a conflict, between their personal interests and their professional responsibilities. Should there be a potential or actual conflict of interest, staff must declare that interest to their manager. They cannot be involved in any decision to select a business they have any interest in as a ssg vendor, or recruit any related staff, nor can they serve in a role that either oversees any services or products provided to ssg by the business or employee, or process payments to them. Ssg prohibits the recruitment of immediate family members. All applicants for a ssg position must disclose whether they are related to any ssg staff member or contractor. While the spouses of ssg personnel may be hired, the serving ssg spouse cannot participate in the recruitment process. Spouses cannot work in the same unit or line of authority, and there can be no supervisory relationship between them. Staff are required to exercise care with regard to intimate relationships in the workplace. While it is inadvisable to enter into romantic relations with a co-worker in their unit, they must not engage in such a relationship with a subordinate or someone in in their reporting line, or where it makes it difficult to maintain their professionalism and objectivity. Gifts, awards, entertainment, hospitality and so on, are sensitive ethical issues at ssg. As a general rule, you may not accept gifts, honours, awards, hospitality, travel, favours, or supplementary payments (with the exception of pension payments), from a government source. There is even a stricter standard for staff and other personnel involved in procurement - no gifts, hospitality, etc. Whatsoever are permitted from outside sources. It is permissible to exchange modest gifts with other ssg colleagues so long as they are freely given, without coercion, of nominal value (below us$30) and not offered to influence a colleague in his/her official decision-making. Ssg supports personnel's right to vote and encourages them to do so. They are also permitted to belong to a political party provided that such membership does not entail action, or an obligation to take action, inconsistent with, (or that would reflect adversely upon), i. The independence and impartiality required by their ssg position and status (e.g., racist parties, or groups that advocate violence) or ii. Any conditions of their visa, if applicable. Finally, because their first priority and their first loyalty are to ssg, they should not have any financial interests that may profit, or appear to benefit, from their ssg work. Designated personnel and those whose principal duties involve procurement and investment are required to disclose annually their assets and liabilities (as well as those held by their immediate family members), and any outside activities and affiliations. Where ssg detects a potential conflict, coo will issue guidance which may include having them cease certain outside activities or requiring that they divest certain financial holdings.”

“Seed Systems Group, Inc. ("SSG") is a non-profit, technical assistance organization registered in the US and headquartered in Nairobi. SSG's work is systemic in approach, investing in capable, well-placed local actors and providing them with technical training and assistance to establish a public-private model for sustainable seed supply among poor, smallholder farmers in Africa. IN 2021, WE IMPLEMENTED THE "BUILDING BACK BETTER: RURAL LIVELIHOODS RECOVERY INITIATIVE FOR THE GREATER HORN OF AFRICA". THIS INTENSIVE SEED SYSTEMS INITIATIVE, FUNDED BY THE INTERNATIONAL FUND FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT'S (IFAD'S) RURAL POOR STIMULUS FACILITY, HAS REACHED OVER 100,000 FARMERS DIRECTLY WITH IMPROVED SEED AND IS ON-TRACK TO PRODUCE OVER 2,500 METRIC TONS OF CERTIFIED SEED OF IMPROVED, CLIMATE RESILIENT VARIETIES REPRESENTING A WIDE RANGE OF NUTRITIOUS CROPS BY DECEMBER 2022. THIS SEED IS SUFFICIENT TO PLANT 170,000 HECTARES AND PRODUCE AN ESTIMATED 200,000 METRIC TONS OF ADDITIONAL GRAINS AND VEGETABLES FOR CONSUMPTION BY RURAL FAMILIES. WE ALSO REVIEWED AGRA'S CONSORTIUM MODEL FOR COMPETITIVE AGRI-FOOD SYSTEMS IN AFRICA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CORNELL UNIVERSITY AND SATHGURU. THE CONSORTIUM'S DESIGN BRINGS ALL PLAYERS IN AGRI-FOOD SYSTEMS INTO EFFECTIVE, PRODUCTIVE PARTNERSHIP AND CONVERGES ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, POLITICAL, AND PRIVATE ENTERPRISE INTERESTS TO ATTRACT CONTINUED ENGAGEMENT OF PARTNERS. THE MODEL AIMS TO EXPAND VALUE CREATION ACROSS COUNTRIES IN AFRICA THROUGH A STAGED PROCESS, CHOOSING PRIORITY COUNTRIES IN WHICH TO PLACE RESOURCES OVER THE NEXT TEN YEARS.”

THIS INTENSIVE SEED SYSTEMS INITIATIVE, FUNDED BY THE INTERNATIONAL FUND FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT'S (IFAD'S) RURAL POOR STIMULUS FACILITY, HAS REACHED OVER 100,000 FARMERS DIRECTLY WITH IMPROVED SEED AND IS ON-TRACK TO PRODUCE OVER 2,500 METRIC TONS OF CERTIFIED SEED OF IMPROVED, CLIMATE RESILIENT VARIETIES REPRESENTING A WIDE RANGE OF NUTRITIOUS CROPS BY DECEMBER 2022. THIS SEED IS SUFFICIENT TO PLANT 170,000 HECTARES AND PRODUCE AN ESTIMATED 200,000 METRIC TONS OF ADDITIONAL GRAINS AND VEGETABLES FOR CONSUMPTION BY RURAL FAMILIES. WE ALSO REVIEWED AGRA'S CONSORTIUM MODEL FOR COMPETITIVE AGRI-FOOD SYSTEMS IN AFRICA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CORNELL UNIVERSITY AND SATHGURU. THE CONSORTIUM'S DESIGN BRINGS ALL PLAYERS IN AGRI-FOOD SYSTEMS INTO EFFECTIVE, PRODUCTIVE PARTNERSHIP AND CONVERGES ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, POLITICAL, AND PRIVATE ENTERPRISE INTERESTS TO ATTRACT CONTINUED ENGAGEMENT OF PARTNERS.
