“The finance personnel responsible for the tax return preparation and/or coordination with osv's independent tax firm compiles the necessary data to provide to the tax firm and conducts the initial review of the 990 draft. The vice president of finance & treasurer also reviews the draft of the return. Conference calls are held with the outside tax firm to discuss any questions/changes. Once the return is ready to file, copies are then provided to the ceo and each of the members of the board of directors for review prior to the return being filed with the irs.”

Conflicts are raised to the board by human resources when they occur. “Management evaluates tax positions taken by the organization and recognizes a tax liability if the organization has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by the irs. The organization has not identified any material uncertain tax positions requiring an accrual or disclosure in the financial statements. There were no interest or penalties recognized in the consolidated statements of activities for the years ended december 31, 2017 and 2016 related to uncertain tax positions. The organization is no longer subject to u.s. Federal or state tax examinations for years prior to 2014. The organization does not expect the total amount of unrecognized tax benefits to significantly change in the next 12 months.”
