Mission

Josephs Home, a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, provides a nurturing caring environment for adults without resources who have acute medical needs helping them heal and achieve independence.

To support the mission and ministry of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, Joseph and Mary's Home provides medical respite to homeless men and women through temporary emergency shelter and assists them in achieving medical stability and permanent housing.

Conflicts of interest are addressed via annual questionaires given to all trustees, officers and key employees. These are reviewed by the chief of compliance of SCHS.

The SCHS Human Resource Department provides guidance and oversight for the compensation of the Executive Director of Joseph and Mary's Home. SCHS takes into consideration current trends in pay and also utilizes an outside consultant to provide market data for similar positions at other organizations. In addition, benefit packages are reviewed to ensure they are consistent with the market and mission. The compensation of the Executive Director is the responsibility of the Joseph and Mary's Board. The annual bonus is based on the achievement of annual goals and reviewed and approved by the Board Chair. All actions are subject to review by the Member.

IRS990/Desc0Joseph's Home was established in 2000 as a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System (SCHS). Mary's Home was established in 2022. It is the only medical respite program providing temporary emergency shelter to homeless individuals in Northeast Ohio. Homeless men and women with acute medical issues, age 18 years and older, are referred through Cuyahoga County's Centralized Coordinated Intake. Joseph and Mary's Home 24 hour interdisciplinary team work with each individual through an integrated health approach to increase medical, financial and housing stability. After discharge services continue with care coordination and ongoing support to assist individuals in achieving long term medical and housing stability. In 2023, 57 men and 39 women were residents at Joseph's and Mary's Home, respectively.
