Caring for kids seeks to provide children of all ages with the safety and security of a healthy and loving family. We believe that each child, regardless of gender, race, nationality or special need deserves a family.
Caring for kids (cfk) is a full-service adoption and foster care agency licensed by the ohio department of job and family services (odjfs). Cfk has multiple programs serving the needs of vulnerable children in care of the public child welfare system, birth mothers (and birth fathers) who choose to make a voluntary adoption plan for their newborn, pre-adoptive parents hoping to adopt a child or sibling group, and foster caregivers providing care for children in the custody of child protective services. Cfk services approximately 400 families, 275 infants and children and 70 birth mothers each year.

“The organization's executive board receives a copy of form 990 to review for completeness and accuracy before the return is filed.”
“The organization holds regular board meetings and monitors and enforces all policies. Anyone with a conflict of interest must disclose the conflict and refrain from voting.”
“Compensation for the executive director is determined and approved by the board of directors. Any related board members of any of the officers must refrain from voting on the compensation of their relatives.”
“Compensation determined and approved by the board of directors. Any related board members of any of the officers must refrain from voting on the compensation of their relatives.”
“The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public on request.”
“Caring for kids, inc. Seeks to provide children in need, whether due to abuse, neglect, abandonment, or institutionalization, with the safety and security of a healthy and loving family. We accomplish this through certifying foster families, recruiting and preparing adoptive families, education, and humanitarian aid.”
“The goal of foster care is reunification of the child(ren) with their biological family. Cfk certifies families to be foster caregivers by conducting the home study and pre-service training classes. During the 2015-2016 fiscal year cfk certified 62 new foster care families. The total of children served in cfk foster caregiver homes during the fiscal year was 109 children. Sometimes, children do not return home, and foster caregivers are needed to not only foster but to adopt children who are placed with them. 26 of the 109 placements switched from foster to adoption status. There is a constant need to recruit and certify new foster caregivers. This is becoming an even greater need due to the increase in opiate addiction and related overdoses/deaths plaguing ohio families. Cfk's goal for the upcoming year is to increase our recruitment efforts and educate the public of the increased, emergent need for foster caregivers.”
“Everyone involved, as well as provide counseling and support services. Cfk is committed to a thoughtful process and offers extensive support for the adoptive parents, the birthparents, and the children. Cfk believes working together allows for the best possible match which will benefit all members of the adoption triad. Cfk places approximately 50 newborns each year. Cfk's goal for next year is to increase our recruitment/education efforts to birth mothers in ohio who may be considering making an adoption plan. We see far too many birth mothers seeking assistance from out-of-state agencies that do not share our philosophies on ethical practice, support services during and after placement of the baby and the importance of openness. -public adoption - cfk offers a search service for families that have an approved ohio home study. Cfk conduct searches throughout ohio and the united states for children available for adoption that meet the characteristics desired by the pre-adoptive family. Children are matched with adoptive families based upon the ability of the family to meet the child's needs. Cfk places approximately 10 children in adoptive homes each year through this program. Our goal for next year is to form additional relationships with adoption case workers representing available children in ohio and in other states.”
“Stronger relationships with the county case workers through education and assistance in preparing the youth for adoption readiness.”
“The preparation of financial statements in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require the organization to report information regarding its exposure to various tax positions taken by the organization. The organization has determined whether any tax positions have met the recognition threshold and has measured the organization's exposure to those tax positions. Management believes that the organization has adequately addressed all relevant tax positions and that there are no unrecorded tax liabilities. Federal and state tax authorities generally have the right to examine and audit the previous three years of tax returns filed. If incurred, the organization records tax related penalties and interest as administrative costs in the accompanying statements of activities and functional expenses. However, the organization incurred no tax related penalties or interest in 2016 or 2015.”

FOSTER CARE IS, BY DEFINITION, TEMPORARY CARE PROVIDED TO A NON-RELATIVE CHILD, LASTING FROM OVERNIGHT TO A YEAR OR MORE. CHILDREN ARE REMOVED FROM THEIR HOMES WHEN THEY ARE ABUSED, NEGLECTED OR ARE IDENTIFIED AS BEING DEPENDENT AND THEIR PARENTS ARE INCAPABLE OF SAFELY PROVIDING CARE FOR THEM AT THE TIME OF PLACEMENT. FOSTER CAREGIVERS PROVIDE A SAFE, STABLE AND LOVING HOME FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES INCLUDING NEWBORNS AND TODDLERS, BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO SHOULD REMAIN TOGETHER (SIBLING GROUPS), PHYSICALLY, DEVELOPMENTALLY, OR EMOTIONALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS. THE GOAL OF FOSTER CARE IS REUNIFICATION OF THE CHILD(REN) WITH THEIR BIOLOGICAL FAMILY. CFK'S GOAL FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR IS TO INCREASE OUR RECRUITMENT EFFORTS AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC OF THE INCREASED, EMERGENT NEED FOR FOSTER CAREGIVERS. |

WE ACCOMPLISH THIS THROUGH CERTIFYING FOSTER FAMILIES, RECRUITING AND PREPARING ADOPTIVE FAMILIES, EDUCATION, AND HUMANITARIAN AID. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | THE GOAL OF FOSTER CARE IS REUNIFICATION OF THE CHILD(REN) WITH THEIR BIOLOGICAL FAMILY.
