Activity 2

Independent Living Services: As an organization with a social mission, St. Edward believes in establishing a long-term relationship with the older adults who reside in their community. In providing independent living services, not only does St. Edward Home provide services attentive to the requirements of a maturing population, but also opportunities for personal growth and enrichment. St. Edward Home is an affordable living option for many low to middle income elderly residents of the Akron community. During 2012, the independent living facility provided 34,225 days of care. At any point in time, there were at least 49 applicants seeking independent living services. In addition, the organization donated use of its numerous spaces to various community organizations, coordinated collections of clothing items and blankets for a local area church, school supplies for the local school and raised monies for a local food pantry.

Activity 3

Assisted Living Services: St. Edward Home provides these services to meet a community need for a level of care between skilled nusing and independent living. By providing assisted living services, it may also provide an option for some residents living in nursing care to move to a more independent/appropriate level of care. During 2012, the organization provided 23,243 days of care in assisted living services. St. Edward Home participates in the Assisted Living Waiver program, a long-term care option for Medicaid recipients and offers an alternative to nursing home placement. The program is a Medicaid funded program that allows eligible individuals to reside in and receive services from a licensed residential care facility.
