IRS990/Desc0INNOVATION: AFRICA (IA - HTTPS://WWW.INNOAFRICA.ORG/) BRINGS INNOVATIVE SOLAR AND AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGIES TO REMOTE SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN VILLAGES TO COMBAT POVERTY, DISEASE AND HUNGER. USING ISRAELI SOLAR ENERGY, WE PROVIDE ELECTRICITY TO POWER SCHOOLS AND ORPHANAGES, WHICH ALLOWS STUDENTS TO STUDY AT NIGHT AND TO MEDICAL CLINICS TO PROVIDE PROPER HEALTHCARE AND REFRIGERATION FOR STORING MEDICINES AND VACCINES. THE SOLAR PANELS INSTALLED IN THE VILLAGES ALLOW FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ENERGY TO PUMP CLEAN WATER DEEP BELOW THE GROUND IN THE AQUIFERS, MAKING IT AVAILABLE YEAR-ROUND AND ELIMINATE WATER-BORNE DISEASES. EACH WATER PUMP PROVIDES RURAL COMMUNITIES WITH OVER 20,000 LITERS OF CLEAN WATER PER DAY. USING ISRAELI UNIQUE TECHNOLOGY, DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEMS EXTEND THE GROWING SEASON, PREVENTING HUNGER AND CREATING REVENUE GENERATING POSSIBILITIES. OUR ENGINEERS HAVE DEVELOPED REMOTE MONITORING TECHNOLOGY THAT DETECTS SYSTEM FAILURES, AND HAVE TRAINED LOCAL RESIDENTS TO REPAIR EQUIPMENT SO THAT VILLAGES ARE NEVER LEFT IN THE DARK OR WITHOUT WATER. PRIOR TO SYSTEM INSTALLATION, RESIDENTS CREATE A BUSINESS PLAN THAT IS IMPLEMENTED BY A VILLAGE COMMITTEE TO SUPPORT MINIMAL ANNUAL MAINTENANCE COSTS.THE LARGEST PROGRAMS THIS YEAR TOOK PLACE IN BOTH OUR AFRICA PROGRAMS DEPARTMENT AND OUR US PROGRAMS DEPARTMENT. WITHIN AFRICA, WE EXPANDED INTO A NEW REGION IN UGANDA, THE KARAMOJA REGION. WE BEGAN WORK ON 6 WATER PROJECTS THAT WILL IMPACT APPROXIMATELY 20,000.WITHIN OUR US PROGRAMS, WE FOCUSED ON INCREASING OUR US SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE AND INCREASED THE NUMBER OF FACEBOOK FOLLOWERS FROM JUST UNDER 200,000 TO MORE THAN 370,500. IN 2016, WE WERE FEATURED IN OVER 25 NEW PUBLICATIONS WORLDWIDE FROM BOTH SECULAR AND JEWISH OUTLETS. WE HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED OUR PR ACTIVITIES BY FOCUSING ON TV AND ONLINE VIDEO CONTENT. FOR EXAMPLE, A RECENT TV INTERVIEW BETWEEN SIVAN YA'ARI AND DAMON DAVIS (HOST OF 1ONONE) AIRED ON WORD NETWORK, A CHANNEL WITH A VIEWERSHIP OF 89 MILLION HOMES IN THE US ALONE, IN ADDITION TO ITS INTERNATIONAL MARKET. SIVAN RECORDED A TEDX TALK AT TEL AVIV UNIVERSITY, AND WAS FEATURED IN A 10 MINUTE SEGMENT ON ISRAEL'S CHANNEL 2 NEWS, WHICH HAS 3 MILLION VIEWERS. SIVAN HAS ALSO APPEARED ON THE 700 CLUB WITH GORDON ROBERTSON 3 TIMES, WAS FEATURED IN THE GLOBES 40 UNDER 40 LIST AND HONORED BY THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S FORUM AND MASHAV. WE'RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON A DOCUMENTARY WITH JERUSALEM U (THANKS TO AN INTRODUCTION BY CARRIE FILIPETTI) CALLED SUSTAINABLE NATION THAT WILL SOON BE LEVERAGED TO EDUCATE AND ACTIVATE COLLEGE STUDENTS. LASTLY, OUR WORK RECEIVED ITS OWN CHAPTER IN SETH SIEGEL'S NY TIMES BEST SELLER, LET THERE BE WATER. SIVAN WAS INVITED IN MARCH OF 2016 TO PRESENT AT THE AIPAC POLICY CONFERENCE TO SHARE ON A NUMBER OF PANELS, ONE OF THEM BEING TO DISCUSS OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH GORDON ROBERTSON, THE CEO OF CHRISTIAN BROADCASTING NETWORK (CBN). WE CONTINUE OUR 5-YEAR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL GREEK CHAPTER OF AEPI (186 CHAPTERS WORLDWIDE) RECEIVING AN ANNUAL AMOUNT OF $20,000 TO BRING ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER AND FOOD SECURITY TO AFRICA. OCTOBER 2016, WE HOSTED A GALA IN NEW YORK TO CELEBRATE REACHING OVER 1 MILLION PEOPLE IMPACTED BY IA PROJECTS. OVER 400 GUESTS, INCLUDING CURRENT AND PAST DONORS, AFRICAN OFFICIALS, BOARD MEMBERS, VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF, ALL ATTENDED THE EVENT.*THE IMPACT OF CLEAN WATER AND POWER INCLUDES IMPROVED COMMUNITY HEALTH; ENTREPRENEURIAL AND OTHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHO NO LONGER NEED TO SPEND THEIR DAYS FETCHING WATER; RUNNING WATER IMPROVES SANITATION; AND THE COMMUNITY IS EMPOWERED BY IMPROVED LIVING CONDITIONS AND THE OVERALL ECONOMIC AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES MADE POSSIBLE WITH THE ADDITION OF ELECTRICITY.
