Activity 2

Comprehensive Child Development, Inc. (CCD) provides early childhood education and care for 380 children of low-income families who are working or in vocational training. In addition, families who are at risk for abuse or neglect are eligible for services. This year, 165 children successfully completed preschool in CCD's Centers and went off to kindergarten to continue their journey on a lifelong path of learning. Trained teachers certified by the CA Dept. of Ed. along with additional support staff work with children in an enriched, developmentally appropriate environment in 5 child development centers and a network of 30 licensed Family Child Care Homes. Parents are assisted with resources and referrals to various social service and other support agencies in the community. The 380 children range in age from 4 months to Kindergarten.

Activity 3

The City of Long Beach, SHP Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Grants for Early Childhood Education and Care Programs for families experiencing homelessness. CCD is part of the Long Beach Continuum of Care for the homeless, a collaborative of service providers who offer support to families living in the adjacent transitional housing facilities. The goal of this project is to provide a variety of supports for these extremely fragile families as they seek and maintain permanent housing and stabilize the other important elements of their lives.
