| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc | 0 | Education: CHILDREN: The Foundation provides educational activities in collaboration with the elementary schools in our service area. Elementary school aged children are provided with a curriculum that focuses on preventable cancers. The Foundation uses visual aids to convey healthy versus diseased organs and a "jar of tar" to illustrate the physical damage tobacco use does to the body and the dangers of exposure. Additionally, the children participate in activities that illustrate the dangers of sun exposure and the need to use sun protection.ADULT: Because tobacco contributes to an extensive list of serious diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, emphysema, bronchitis and multiple cancers, the Foundation offers an Adult Tobacco Cessation Program led by a Tobacco Treatment Specialist certified by the Mayo Clinic. This six week, nine session program offers participants the opportunity to end their addiction to nicotine. Participants are provided with encouragement and proven strategies for overcoming nicotine withdrawal, cravings, stress and fear about quitting. |
