Ohio department of development thomas edison program: as the ohio edison technology center designated for advanced energy and environmental technologies, ewi serves as ohio's statewide resource for ohio's small to medium manufacturers with a mission to build connections between ohio's research capacity, anchor industries, and supply chains to help ensure that technology problems are solved. Activities include industry cluster outreach, networking, consortium building, and education, as well as manufacturing assistance and technology advancement to help create new products, jobs, and supply chains to fill existing gaps.

Activity 3

Army/mjaws-unique army battlefield requirements for ground combat vehicles such as sustained high-stress use of ground combat vehicles and ballistic performance dictate the use of more efficient structural designs and advanced lightweight materials. Designs for vehicle systems may use a combination of composites, aluminum alloys, and titanium alloys; some of these materials/combinations like ai5059-2139 welds will enter into broad use of us army combat vehicles for the first time. The last two years, under mjaws, have seen an added emphasis on materials like metal matrix composites (mmcs), nanoscale high-strength ai alloys, tri-modal 5xxx ai and nanoscale-mg for armor solutions. Ewi is developing processing approaches for manufacturing, inspection, repair and sustainment of ground combat vehicles in a compressed timeframe to meet key decision points for system development.
